Problem: Asio inputs swapping during record

Hi, need help, tried searching but found nothing

I've been upgrading my WinXP kx setup for a few weeks now and have managed to get 2 sblive cards working together with asio, connected via 2 spdif cables. I use the older value card (ct4670) for soft synth and drum machine output with Buzz tracker. The platinum+livedriveII card (ct4760) I use for multitrack recording with Kristal audio engine. In ct4760 DSP I've routed the asio channels so that sb line/mic input goes to asio in 0/1, drum machine output (cd spdif in) goes to asio in 2/3 and Reverbed version of line/mic goes to asio input 4/5. So I'm recording 3 stereo channels simultaneously into the multitrack.

Now to the problem.. Sometimes during the recording process the asio input channels weirdly change places. At first all is fine, but after a while of recording, the audio from the drum machine jumps to track 1 (asio in 0/1) when it was supposed to go to track 2 (asio in 2/3), track 1 jumps to track 3 and so on. The track changes seem to be random. Sometimes the inputs are swapped before recording even starts.

Anyone know a solution to this? I'd hate to go back to recording just 1 thing at a time.

SBlive card often have the missing 2 asio channels problem. Mine does not have asio14 and asio15. If They get loaded by the host, all kind of weird channel swapping happens. Maybe your problem is related to this.

Go into the Preferences of KRISTAL (engine, Preferences...).

Under Audio Setup, click your sound card name.
In asio input and asio output, uncheck "kX in 14", kX in 15" and "15 kX Out 14 - 16 kX Out 15".

I'm not sure but I think that this may help you. KRISTAL won't try to load the two nonworking asio inputs and outputs so the channel swapping won't happen again. It's worth a try.

Now I've enabled only 0-5 in and 6-7 out of the 8+8 asio channels and the problem seems to have disappeared. To test this missing channel thing you said, I tried enabling all the 16 input channels and the swapping came back so I guess it was the cause. Thanks for the help Tril!
