Cubase SE - weird behaviour

Hi guys,

I just bought Cubase SE after I tried my friend's Cubase SX 2 for some days. Everything works fine with SE except one disturbing behaviour.
Here's the scenario and the behaviour of Cubase:

- I create 2 or 3 audio tracks

- In the first audio track I insert a mp3 file, which is a rough instrumental mix of the song

- In the second audio track I record some audio, some vocals for example

- I do the same with the 3rd track, record some vocals or some other audio, guitar for example

So - i have 3 audio tracks and everything seems fine - but it isn't.
After 10-15 minutes of working with SE, when I push play or record the ruler begins to move but it takes several seconds before i hear the sound of the audio tracks.
Then the sound begins and the ruler stops for some seconds so the "sound can catch up to the ruler". So the ruler stops for some seconds and when sound and ruler are synchronized, everything is ok again. There's sound and the ruler is moving.
But I always get the described behaviour. This is independant from the latency. Wether I use 10ms or 170ms for example - always the same behaviour.

- for some seconds the ruler is moving and there is no sound

- then the sound begins and the ruler stops

- when both are at the same position everything is back to normal

But this can be very disturbing when recording Audio. You always have to point the ruler to several seconds before you want to start recording so you don't get confused by the display and the "sound catches up to ruler".

I absolutely didn't encounter this behaviour in Cubase SX 2! (which I had borrowed from my friend)
I never had this problem in Cubase SX 2 and I didn't change my hardware / software-configuration since then. Here's my configuration:

CPU AMD Athlon XP 2000+
RAM 512MB DDR 400
Mainboard ASUS A7V8X-X
OS Windows XP Home
Asio Driver KXAsio (for Soundblaster cards)
Creative SB Live! Player 1024 Sound Card

This behaviour only comes up in Cubase SE. I'm also using "EnergyXT", another sequencer - no such problem there. And as I said before - nothing like that in SX 2 with the same KXAsio configuration either.

Can anybody help me out?

Which Samplerate doyou have set in the project defaults:
it must be 48.000 for proper performance - doesn't it?

What is the program version of your SE (maybe buggy?!) ? SX Version 1.06 works fine / SX2.2 too.
