From 5ms to 2ms latency in SX

Unchecking the "lower latency" setting in SX2:

- Devices
- Device Setup
- VST Multitrack
- Expert
- Uncheck "Lower Latency"

got rid of the crackles and pops I was getting @5 and 2ms when I used BFD with Guitar Rig and a few other VSTi's

So now it can do 2ms

This info should be in a sticky (if it isn't already) cause it makes a big difference here with my setup

please note that on some HyperThreading / SMP machines you may need to uncheck 'Multi Processing' checkbox as well (in order to avoid system lock-ups, especially when using ASIO driver in SMP-compatible mode

Where do I find this multiprocessing to uncheck? Is it part of Cubase or kX? Actually I'm trying to get Cubase SX3 to work (which it certainly doesn't do now) and figured something like this might be wrong. SX2 worked just fine.

One change between using SX2 and trying to use SX3: Messed with my Athlon XP to make it Athlon MP by connecting some bridges on the processor. Still don't think I broke it or anything because otherwise it seems to work just fine.

Work. But with CPU hangry projects , i must recheck Low Latency or reset Asio .

This option allows for lower input latency but seems to double the output latency. Look at the VST Multtrack page, there Cubase lists input and output latencies. With "lower latency" checked the output latency is double what ever ASIO is set to.

I could run at 2.33ms but the output latency was near 5ms (about the same as with "lower latency" checked and ASIO set to 5ms) Im pretty sure this is correct because with it unchecked and asio set to 5ms, Cubase shows output latency at 10ms which i can definatley detect during realtime midi playback from my control. Im very used to how 5ms and 10ms feel, because while running 5357 i switched alot between the 2 settings as my projects became more cpu heavy.

So in essense i dont think this setting makes alot of "real time" playback difference.

Some news, when upgrading to Amd64x2@2650Mhz, I noticed that :
- system is unusable if "multi processor mode" is unchecked
- system is unusable if "low latency" is unchecked even at high latencies selected (>92ms)
- "low latency" checked means input latency = output latency (in VST audiobay page)
"low latency" unchecked means input latency = output latency/2 (in VST audiobay page)
(of course input latency always equals the latency selected in kx asio page)

I can now acheive the lowest latency (32 samples) with "low latency" checked.
