What ASIO driver to use?????

Heres what I have:
[color=white]P4 2.8 Ghz[/color]
[color=white]512M RAM[/color]
[color=white]Audigy 2 ZS Plantum[/color]
[color=white]Onboard video[/color]
[color=white]Cakewalk Sonar[/color]
[color=white]Cubasis[/color]
[color=#ffffff][/color]
[color=#ffffff]I want to have an ASIO 24\96 driver. I cannot seem to get it from the Creative driver. I see other drivers talked about on this forum such as YouP PAX drivers, Kx drivers, and ASIO4all drivers. According to Creative, the Audigy 2 ZS is suppose to support the ASIO 2.0 drivers to provide 24\96 recording. [/color]

at the moment, there is no 24/96 supported in kx-asio, but you can record in 16/48 without problems. Eugene wrote, he will fix this when he is finishing the 3538, so you can only wait for the 3538 final or use the creative asio driver.

Tappy, until 3538 final comes out, you can use the Creative driver provided you have all their updates installed. I have the same card as you (A2ZS Platinum) and enjoy full 24/96 ASIO using the Creative driver. However, the driver that comes with the card only provides 16/48 ASIO. You have to install the updates.

As mentioned kx v3538 final is supposed to have 24/96 ASIO for playback only. Depending on your use, this may be enough. I do multichannel 5.1 mixing and I love having the ability to hear my outputs in high-res audio.

I have downloaded the most recent update from Creative (July 29,2004) and installed that. Should I have downloaded\installed all updates by starting at the first one and working my way through to the most recent one?

Also, what recording software are you using?

I installed all updates available. As for software, I use a variety of programs. The one I use most often for multichannel audio is Plogue Bidule.

I use to use KX drivers with my previous soundcard (SB Live 5.1) and thought they were great. I liked the ability to reroute stuff in the DSP. However, I read that KX could only support one input at a time so I decided not to use it with my A2ZS Pl.

No, I only discovered the PAX drivers recently. The Creative ones are working fine for what I need right now. I'm just waiting for Eugene to get the ASIO 24/96 up and running and then I'll definitely go back to kX since I find it much more flexible.

Ex-NBer here been living in Montreal for over a decade.

Good day fellow east coaster,
When I installed the most recent update (July 29) as I said before I still had the old ASIO drivers (Creative ASIO) which are 16bit. So I decided to uninstalled the Creative drivers, reinstalled them to go and do all updates. When I reinstalled Creative, I could not get into some of the Creative software.

I did the same again with the same results. Tried to delete C:\program Files\ Creative and it would not let me delete some files in the "Remote" folder. Tried to install PAX drivers and that was not sucessful. I plan to reinstall them again.

If I had my time back I would have left very well alone

. Any suggestions?

Hi Dave,

Find a free program called DriverCleaner and use it. Although it appears on first glance to be made for certain display cards, it actually has settings for removing both the Creative drivers and kx. Once you get it all cleaned up, then install your Creative drivers from the original CD, and then all the updates. That should work. BTW, what part of the mighty rock are you from?

Actually I do have Driver Cleaner and through the process I described in my last post, I forgot to mention that I used Driver Cleaner as well. I am from the West Coast, near Corner Brook. Do you have MSN Messanger? If so pm me with your info.

I am at work now and I plan to get at my driver situation when I get home.

I'd like to know the DLL -filename for 24-bit ASIO driver.
I've found only ctasio.dll from any of Creative supports update packages. I've read that ASIO 24/96
needs another dll. You find the DLL name called by ASIO 24/96 by searching the registry

If you cant find the DLL other than ctasio.dll then, if youre using Sonar 3.x or 4.x, can you link here a
picture showing the Audio Options window so I can see if your ASIO is truly running in 24-bit mode.

I've never read anything about another DLL. According to settings in my registry, the Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO 24/96 [9800] ASIO driver is handled by C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctasio.dll. I checked this file and it's dated 2003-11-19. I've tested this with Plogue Bidule and it's definitely running at 24-bit resolution and 96K sampling rate. I also know this driver works with Cubase and Nuendo as one of my friends uses it without problems.

I've done the PAX thing. Super drivers with 24\96, however the 24\96 does not show up in Sonar. At least I have the driver I am looking for now and the PAX are a little more brighter and louder. Also with the Audigy 4 software.

Very cool. Do you have a choice of 24/48 with the Pax drivers or just 24/96? It's a big CPU saver to be able to do 48kHz sound. Plus the only ones who can hear the difference between 48 and 96 are dogs!

Thanks for the correction. That was my interpetation based upon what I had read. Sorry! Actually, I loved the KX drivers and will probably return to them again when thay can record 24\96.

Can you assign a headphone channel to prelisten with the Live! 5.1? I have been playing with Ableton recently, and my current soundcard doesn't support ASIO. I am getting a laptop soon for this soon, but for the time being I would like to set this up on my PC with a cheap soundcard so I can just mess around with it. Will these kX drivers enable me to assign a prelisten to the headphones with this $30 soundcard? This is not for recording purposes obviously.

You can do this! All inputs and outputs of the card are routable with each other inside the DSP. So if you route the recording channel also to the front output (where the headphone driver is) then you will hear the signal that is just recorded and so on. Check the help files shipped with the driver and the related topics in the DSP forum and learn more about kX.
