ASIO4ALL Universal ASIO Driver!

Hi,

There is this driver called "Asio4All" which allows almost ANY sound card to have full ASIO functionality. I tried it on a SB Live 24 bit External (USB version...unsupported by kx) and I got AMAZING latency. Apparently you can use it on almost anything, even onboard sound. I couldn't believe I was running 6 tracks with very heavy effects on a laptop and USB soundcard with 5 ms latency (44.1 khz, 16 bit)! It supplies an external ASIO panel to configure for music programs so the rest of your system remains the same. Also, I believe it supports 24/96 if your soundcard does as well. Try it out if the kx ASIO is not working for you (i.e. 24/96). You can still use kx for all of its other goodies.

dj,

Perhaps it would be helpful to add a line to the list of supported cards stating that, for those that aren't supported by kx, other ASIO drivers such as ASIO4ALL or ASIO2KS may be an option. This would help those who don't think of searching the forum for discussions.

24/96 also with Audigy 2 Platinum eX?

Hi there,

anybody know if the ASIO4ALL also will provide ASIO 24/96 for my Audigy 2 Platinum eX?
I have seen reports at their forum that it is working with the ZS series. Would perhaps be a nice "companion" to kX!

Another question: The Creative drivers from July, do they also provide 24/96 for my A2 Plat eX or only for ZS series?

Kind regards,

Sture

I'm at work so I can't say for sure, but, I did try ASIO4ALL with Plogue Bidule set to 96kHz, and it worked whereas ASIO2KS didn't. So, I think ASIO4ALL should give you 24/96 (the 96 itself isn't as important to sound quality as the 24).

As for the July driver updates, I believe they only give the ZS cards ASIO 24/96, but I may be wrong. If you post a question on the support forum over at soundblaster.com, you'll generally get an answer within a day or so.

Creative 24/96 or ASIO4ALL

Hi ursamtl,

I have asked at soundblaster.com, but not yet received any answers. However, I read in their knowledge section and it seems very possible it should work also with A2 Plat eX. What kind of latency can you get with the creative 24/96 driver?

I guess if I install the ASIO 4 all driver, I could still use all the other great kX stuff and after finally understood the DSP, I don't want to go back to Creative stuff.

Kind regards,

Sture

Latency with the CL driver can be as low as 2ms, depending on your PC. I have a 4-yr-old T-bird 1.1Ghz system that's giving me about 10ms with both CL and kx drivers. Anything under 20 is very playable in realtime so I'm fine with this.

Hi again ursamtl,

I had no luck in getting any answers at soundblaster forum, so I will probably first try with the ASIO4ALL driver and if that fails, try the Creative drivers from July. As Eugene seems to be busy, I am afraid it will take some time before kX will offer any 24 bit support.

That's too bad. I got quick results from the Creative forum when I posted there initially, although I've also had no answer other times. Yes, give ASIO4ALL a try, and if it doesn't work for you, install the Creative drivers. By the way, to get the updated 24-bit ASIO driver, I believe you have to install the driver that came with your card and then the downloadable updates.

And don't give up on Eugene. His last message seems to indicate he's serious about providing 24-bit ASIO in the final 3538, so keep an eye out for it. I look forward to switching back to kx. I really miss its flexibility.

A2 Plat ex 24 bit should work

I finally got a reply, but not from Creative. Yes, the A2 Plat eX should work with 24 bit (96 kHz) with the 24/96 driver. I have now also found the text in the knowledge section. If the ASIO4ALL fails, I might give it a try but I am not very fond of installing Creative software since I like the kX stuff too much and it's amazing flexibility. But I also believe creative gives better sounfont support and that might be worth the hazzle after all. I will see how much time I can spend in the weekend!

Kind regards

Correct, for now... But I had installed ASIO4ALL just for comparison and got nothing than trouble with different card types - so I unistalled it again.
