KX rocks have a question about Guitar rig setup

Hi All

running latest KX ASIO on XP Pro OS with Guitar Rig (demo). I seem to be getting sensitivity issues when playing guitar, sound can wash in and out with pressure of my playing. Latency settings are 5ms. I am trying to get it so what ever attack I use light, hard my effects are working through Guitar Rig. Shoulnd't my pickups be hot all the time on Line in?

I have a AMD XP+ 1900 1gb ram SB LIVE OEM CT4380 .
Backgorund services are priority.

which input are you using? when using the line in on the back of the card I found it very difficult to get the guitar input up to the right level without a preamp. Since then ive got a live drive and use the pre-amped input on it. sounds much better

Hi Toadly

I am indeed direct via the line in on the SB live so you went to the live drive is it a Creative accesory? What about using my Fender Princeton amp and looping it to the line in ? Or perhaps just getting a small preamp.

The line in without any processing software allows me to hear the guitar clean with both light and heavy playing but soon as Guitar rig is added it is if I need to get my pickups much hotter.

I looked for a used live drive for some time before finding one local. The mic input on it has pre-amp and works great for guitar/mic.

If your amp has a line out or phone out it should help. I recorded a friends bass guitar with line out from his amp and it had a nice line level output.

There are many affordable pre amps on the market, Been looking at some small Behringer mixers w/preamps.

something like this is perfect for a musician with simple guitar/mic setup.

There is a thread here on KX about making your on guitar/mic preamp. I have no knowledge of building circuits but some have said its easy and parts should be less that $20. find it here
Cheap and easy to make LowNoise Guitar PreAmp.

Thanks for the input Toad. Toad on the Live are you patching your guitar in through the line or mic? I noticed on the SB Live Mic setting you can boost the 20 db on the Mic?? I may have a line on a used Live drive 2 and a Platnium SB Live 5.1 but am really trying to do for as little quid as possible.

The Fender Princeton is a pretty nice amp it has both a effects loop for mono and stereo 25 rms per each speaker (it has 2). The PC affords me the capability of tinkering on Guitar Rig with headphones which is what i was looking for.

The links look pretty cook thanks again.

If you Line in direct can you get subtle nuiances on the Guitar Rig? or are you to having to hammer the strings?

if you use the rig control that comes with guitar rig, you should use line in, other wise use a seperate pre-amp (the mic in is really bad imo)

Hi DJ

It is the demo of Guitar rig so I don't have the rig controller but I am going line in and can audibly hear the Guitar with both light and heavy plucking on a normal linein and headphones no Guitar Rig. The Guitar rig seems to need a heavy strum to get it happening.

you need a dedicated pre-amp to get a guitar up to line-level volume

I use the Mic2 input on the live drive. It has a built in pre-amp with line level control knob. the line in or mic in on the back of the card "expect" a line level signal. Which means with guitar the volume is gonna be really low with out a pre amp.

Id try the effects loop out of your amp.

Been tweaking Guitar Rig, KX ASIO settings and have found a usable setting by turning noise gate off for mucking around it gave me the needed pre amp to use a vaired attack on the strings. Guitar Rig latency is super with the KX project driver and the ASIO drivers are a godsend for anyone with a SB Live desiring to explore/tinker with music processing on a PC. The latency settings in ASIO I am running on my XP1900+ rig is 5msc and they seem to be quite functional.

Cheers

Michael

How did you get the Mic2/Line2 to work? I have tried this but I am not able to use this as an input for guitar rig

Hi Toadman, you said you got your Live card and LiveDrive to work with GuitarRig - i have a SB Live (CT4830) and a LiveDrive (CT4860) and i can't get ANY input whatsoever ... would it be possible for you to upload your .kx file to the Kx Project Preset Exchange?
