Live!@Kx + GuitarRig@Logic 5.5...any chance recording audio?
Hi guys, Kx drivers rock but I wonder whether what I want from it now is not really too much...
I got SB Live! card, currently on Kx 5354 and alone on IRQ 16, Athlon XP2500, 768MB RAM, nForce2, 40GBMaxtor @ 133ATA
Trying to record in Emagic Logic 5.5 some guitar tracks using NI Guitar Rig demo as a plugin
When I record without the effects, the clean tracks are basically ok, no pops
But when I use the Guitar Rig plugin, it turns to a popping galore, virtually unusable recordings...
Any ideas? Anyone goin fine doin this? What settings please?
Or the time to go pro-card?

increase the latency settings of the sound card
in logic go to the "audio menu" choose "audio hardware and drivers" go to the second drivers page and press the latency button. Increase this until the pops and clicks are gone

thanks stick but I dont see any latency button in second driver page, what exactly you mean?
in ASIO config I can set only 23ms latency, if I go any higher the Logic starts with an error message about too big latency and too many channels
also at 23ms I hear audible delay so I suspect this would get even worse with larger latencies..?
please help

that shouldn't cause any pops and clicks…
have you:
1. disabled onboard sound?
2. optimised the computer for background services?
3. closed all unnecessasy i/o in logic?
4. defragmented the harddrive?
5. scanned for spyware?
6. tried guitar rig in standalone?

1. onboard disabled OK
2. how do I optimize computer for background services...I am runing Win2k...?
3. how do I close unnecessary i/o in logic? I need only one input for recording one track
4. drive is heavily fragmented...18GB of 39GB free..but the popping appears when I use Guitar Rig as a standalone just when playing
5. whats the best way to get rid of spyware? got lavasoft...any better cleaner?
thanks alot for help!

ok wilco but you are 100% sure that my HW is strong enough for the recording with GR in Logic?
anyone doing it without a problem?
cuz a friend of mine with a little studio keeps saying the Live! is not meant for the task and says the only solution is a pro soundcard...

This friend surely never heard about kX! And yes, your HD should work. Try to tune up your computer and try to activate (if possible and not always on) DMA for the HD.
Greetings!

ok guys...
Defragmented and cleaned PC...no fragments no spyware...
I found out that the popping "gets" in the the track recorded in Logic with the NI Guitar Rig effect on the same input so that resulting track is output WITH the effect (the effect is "embeded" in the wav but the pops are embeded in the track too)...there is no popping when I record, there is only popping when I listen to the track afterwards and the pops are part of the track, nothing external
The popping occurs also when I record with a Logic plugin like Delay etc.
When I record without the effect, just clean wav on one track, there is no popping
What am I doing wrong? What is the way to record a track with a plugin effect so that there would be no poping?
thanks alot in advance

Logic uses all available asio channels as default. Try turning unused channes off (inside logic) to see if it improves.

btw i myself use a 2500+ (overclocked slightly), and a little bit more ram than you - and i have no troubles, but even with my old system athlon 750 (also overclocked - 825) with 768Mb - i could record VSTi and effects fine with logic

how do I turn unused channells off in logic?
maybe I use wrong settings to record effect into the track, what is the best way?
also, I got only old SB Live...maybe Audigy is better more powerfull?
it records ok when recording in Guitar Rig as standalone...also no pops...so it must be something with the Logic...
I can not have the software monitorring off...if I switch it off the recording does not work..could it mean something?

the live! is "powerful" enough - in the audio drivers window in logic - choose 2 inputs and 2 inputs instead of 16/16
