Latency <--> Quality

I just wanna know if lowering ASIO latency improves playback quality?
Also, what does "Use direct input monitor" setting means (Foobar2k ASIO plug)?

I`m noob in ASIO topic, so don`t blame me :S

No, lowering ASIO latency can in fact decrease playback quality if you put it too low (you'll then hear cracks, pops etc). ASIO latency only applies to ASIO software (not general music playback or game playback in windows).

latency in the sense of the word is the time it takes for the card to react and process sound, the lower the latency the faster it reproduces the sound
if you set the latency too low the computer cannot catch up and you lose the buffer of the audio stream, causing pops and clicks

But the generated sound is always the same, despite those clicks and pops?

yes the sound will be the same, except when recording from an external source afaik… but i know with VSTi it doesn't matter what the latency is…
