rgc:audio sfz noise problem

Anyone out there using rgc:audio's free SFZ with SB Live and KX ASIO drivers? I'm using this VSTi in Sonar with the DirectiXer wrapper.

The problem happens when I use multiple instances of SFZ. I can play one instance all day long with no problems, but when I switch tracks in Sonar to play another instance of SFZ I get a loud nasty blast of garbage noise for a short time before the sound returns to normal.

Of course as with most VST's, I have no idea which link in the chain is causing this, but I suspect it might be the ASIO drivers. I read thru the long, long SFZ thread at http://www.kvr-vst.com/ and nobody posting there reported anything like this.

Any ideas?

it *could* be the DX wrapper you are using, try it in a native vstI host

i think there are some freeware/shareware apps around, you just need to test to see if multiple VSTi will load at once
otherwise try to test on a similiar maching w/o kX

Hehehe! Lost patience and just now ordered a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 to replace the SB Live. The KX drivers probably aren't the problem, but I've got enough other weirdnesses that I've had it with the SB Live.

Should be interesting. Bunches of posters over at the Sonar forum that have 2496 cards are all very happy with theirs.

If I can run both cards (should be able to), I'll continue tinkering with the SB and KX.

There is nice and free VST host

MiniHost
http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html

Quote:
MiniHost is a powerful and full-fledged ASIO host that loads a VST plugin (instrument or effect) and processes it in realtime.

It offers many features that similar programs don't have. Here are just some of them:
- send MIDI data to VST plugins from external MIDI inputs, a resizable virtual MIDI keyboard, the computer keyboard or MIDI files
- process ASIO inputs or a WAV file
- record audio output to WAV (16 and 32 bit)
- browse through the presets
- included preset manager, allows easy organisation of all presets
- included preset randomizer with script support and mutate option
- drag n' drop support
- support for VST MIDI plugins that generate MIDI data
- much much more ...

By donating any amount of money, you will receive a registration code that will make the daily donationware remainder disappear and put your name in the about box.

BINGO!!! Switched from DirectiXer to Chainer and the problem is gone.

Didn't really need to buy the Audiophile 2496, but it's SO nice, so I'm happy anyway. The new card works happily at 1.3ms latency with no clicks/pops, but I turned it up to 5ish just to be on the safe side.
