VSTi hosts and Logic 5.5.1 SIMULTAINIOUSLY

Hi folks

I use VSTack host (with latest KX on live 5.1) live onstage as part of my keyboard setup. The Logic instruments sound great and i want to add them to my onstage sounds. Has anyone succesfully been able to run both a VST host and Logic (both set to AISO) simulatianiously? Ive tried single and dual sound card setups but still cant seem to get it to work.

try asio4all, so you have two asio interfaces, one for vstack, the other for logic. I works with either one card or two

Thanks for the tip, Ive tested this on a second pc and Ive gotten past the error and can get both VSTack and Logic loaded simultainiously!

However now ive run into some non-asio/kx problem. its more of a Logic/midi port problem.
Im getting a midi feedback loop. this maybe a question for a Logic group but heres my setup and problem.

I run 2 midi controllers > Midisport 2X2 USB > Midi Ox > Midi Yoke > Vstack

This setup works great and I can choose basically any VSTi from either controller by selecting midi channel.

When open Logic regaurdles of wether VSTack is loaded or not I get a Midi Feedback error that I think is associated with Midi Yoke.

Any clue? or should i take it to a Logic or Midi Yoke group?

Thanks

If I remember well you have to edit win.ini file in C:\WINNT (or WINDOWS). Theres a Logic section listing midi ports. A 1 makes it active for logic, a 0 (zero) deactivates it. So don't activate the same in/out midi joke pair and you should be set

Man You Rock Miguel!

Im all giddy at the thought of having this many instruments real time.

If you could answer one more question I will be completely stoked.

Is there a way in Logic to have it ingore certain midi channels?

I have all my VSTi set on particular channels so I can easily pull them up on stage.
In fact I run a desktop type pc with out video/keyboard/mouse, just my PC, midi usb merger and my controllers.

Ideally I need Logic to just listen on midi channels 7-10 or on just on one channel in particular.

Thanks for all your help

KX rules, and Aiso4All is pretty darn cool as well. they work well together.

PS. I did have to reset my DSP before I could hear asio4all on 4/5? why is that? where exactly in the DSP does asio4all 4/5 appear?

Thanks again

i think in the logic mixer panels… the one that shows up on the side you can choose channels for each midi/audio instrument
change channels from "all" to a number from 1-16

I was able to send only my prefered channels to logic using midi Ox and Yoke. Nifty gagdets.

Heres a good one:

Ever seen a program that could take incomming midi data and turn it into windows keyboard commands?

Like making a certain midi note "type" a letter or a certain midi CC make windows PageUp/Down?

With a program like this I could choose tracks in Logic via midi commands instead of using the mouse or PC keyboard.

im not sure such a program exists… but it is possible to program something that allows midi notes and CC's to change a function on a program (i've seen it on native instruments traktor) not sure if logic can do this though… other wise try trackball?

I found a program to convert incomming midi data to standard QWERTY keyboard commands!

http://www.bome.com Bome's Midi Translator

Im hoping I can use this to change tracks/instruments in logic.

Will let you guys know if it works.

DJ I dont want to use a track ball or a mouse. See im running my PC without Monitor/keyboard/mouse. Just my PC usb to my controllers.

SOLVED

I solved my whole setup issue!

I have been discussing this setup on a Yahoo group dedicated to Hammond B3 Clones and I thought this list may be interested in my final post there:

one thing toadly… logic CAN play multiple instruments at once, but you have to set this up in the environment.
I like clearing the entire "Audio" page of the environment and loading the "Instrument" module, and then connecting that to the "Audio object" module. Double click the audio object and you will get a channel fader, and from the properties panel at the side you can set this to an audio instrument
Then you can set the midi channel of the "Instrument" module

Note: that is all theoretical, i have never done this using midi keyboards but it *should* work correctly… if not try replacing the "instrument" module with the "midi in" module.
This are found under the "New" menu
