VST's and the DSP..?

1. Is it possible to load VST effects into the DSP..?

2. If so, how..?

3. In my VST folder there is a KX .dll file. Is that for DSP automation..? It doesn't show up in my host (Logic 5.5), so I don't know how to use it. Does anyone here know..?

I've searched the forum but found no information regarding the above.

Thank's in advance.

thge DSP will only run DSP presets written for kX - as for the kXi - look under VST instruments in logic

Thank's very much for clearing that up for me DJ Stick. I'll give it a try this weekend.

btw - by sending an audio channel to output 3&4, using the kX Router you can use the DSP plugins on a synthesized sound in logic.

Well, the KX drivers seem ok now I've figured out the DSP. But the KXi doesn't show up in Logic's instrument menu, it's there in Chainer though so it's not a big deal.

However I do have a BIG problem... Logic frequently stops with the message "Asio overload". This happens even when only one track is recorded and the CPU meter is hardly moving - it never happened with the old Creative drivers. I've read here that there may be a conflict with the IRQ's, but I don't know how to fix that.

Can anyone here give me some advice to help solve this problem..?

I use Win 98 SE on a P4 2.4 with 512MB RAM. Audigy Platinum 2, Logic 5.5.

Hi!

Have you uninstalled all creative drivers before? Have you set hardware acceleration to full? Are you on 48kHz with your sequencer? Which kx-driver you are using? Try to use newer OSes ´cause they have better streaming support and better IRQ-handling. Try to increase the latency a bit.

The kxi is not an instrument, it´s for automation of fx in the dsp - over kxi you are able to control them via MIDI...

If you are able to choose IRQs in the BIOS, try to give your audigy an own interrupt. Otherwise try to change the PCI-slot. Take care that there is no sharing with graphic processor or USB-device.

Good luck!

Thank's for your reply TravelRec,

There is no trace of any Creative software on my system - apart from Vienna.

Hardware acceleration is set to full.

Using 48k.

Using the latest KX driver.

Can't upgrade my OS until I can afford a replacement for my Midiman 4x4, the drivers for which were not updated to XP. When I have some spare cash I'll get a new MIDI interface and Win XP.... In the meantime...

Tried different settings for the latency. I used to get 7ms with the Creative drivers. Anything above 20ms doesn't work for me as the response is too slow for live playing from my master keyboard (Kurzweil K2500).

I think the IRQ thing is the answer, and from what I've read here, I'm not alone. Trouble is, I don't know how to edit IRQ's.

The KXi .dll in my VST folder doesn't show up anywhere in Logic, either as an effect or an instrument. DJ Stick suggested it would be under Logic instruments, but it's not there. This doesn't bother me though. At the moment the priority is to get the drivers working properely. Until then there's nothing to automate anyway.

Hi!

For IRQ editing: if you have AWARD-BIOS (or similar) you can change the IRQs manually anywhere inside the BIOS-menu. Some computers (Dell f.e.) have PHOENIX-BIOS and there is no way change anything . So if you change - be careful that you make no conflict with other components. And choose an IRQ >= 9. If you can´t change IRQs manually better wait for XP or try to move the card into different slots (and/or deactivate unused componets to free an IRQ - if possible).

Good luck!

some motherboards link 2 PCI slots to the same irq, and that is not good for the soundcard… as for kXi - i was under the impression that it would be under VST instruments or VST effects - maybe by the name kX Control… i have yet to experiment with this yet - but my new ventures into sidechaining compressors should give me the chance to

Just to let you know - if you haven't already found out....

KX Control shows up in Logic as a MIDI driver in the Environment (which is a really nice feature). In the environment, create a new instrument object and assign its output driver (in the parameter box) to KX Control. You can then create faders, switches, etc and cable them to the new instrument and do all kinds of fancy real-time control.

Unfortunately though, KX drivers made my system too unstable and I had to go back to the Creative drivers a few days ago - I simply had too many crashes and couldn't get any music done. Maybe I'll check them out again in the future and see if they're more stable with 98SE. I really miss that DSP.

[PS] I really did try everything to get them working, including the IRQ settings.
