Using ASIO with 44.1k rate

So why can't you use the ASIO drivers in 44.1k mode? I use Sonar for recording projects and all my old material is recorded at 44.1k. I recently installed the KX project drivers for my Gateway OEM audigy card and learned that to use Sonar and KX project drivers, I need to tell Sonar to use ASIO driver or else the midi/audio synch is really poor (audio is off by 55msec). The ASIO drivers fix that timing issue, however now I can't play any of my old projects since they are 44.1. Interestly, the Sonar audio advanced menu allows be to lauch the KX ASIO panel in which there is a drop down box for sampling rate and 44.1k is a selection, however, selecting this causes the drivers to freeze, and Sonar can't detect output ports. Once I switch that setting to 44.1, I have to use the KX project reset global options to get things working again. So I tried to convert all my older projects to 48k, which worked for some (I can play them back), however, some of the older cakewalk projects (or maybe this happens when I saved a few projects as bundles- one file that contains all the audio and midi) must have stored the audio information differently. It seems that these projects stored really long audio files that have say track 1, track 2, track 3, etc all back to back in one audio file, then Sonar somehow splits it up into seperate tracks. These projects came out messed up when I converted them to 48k, Sonar doesn't split the long audio file up correctly. It plays, just parts don't play where they are supposed to. This is frustrating, each time I think I got a fix, my fix leads to another problem. So is there a way to use the ASIO drivers in 44.1 k? If not, I may have to try re-installing the creative drivers another the creative drivers weren't working right which is what started me out on this long road of trying to get my recording studio up and running again. Perhaps it is just time for a new semi pro sound card.

This may be something which has been covered elsewhere but, since I am new here I'll say it anyway. I am a Samplitude and Audigy Platinum user and found early on that since the Audigy seems to be hardwired at 48KHz it is difficult if not impossible to record/playback at any other rate. I found though that any early projects I had (prior to using the Audigy) were easily converted to 48 without any loss in quality. As I said, I'm using Samplitude so it may be that the conversion is different in Sonar. Is there any way to bounce the original material to a wave file using the WDM driver and then re-import it back to Sonar using the 48K ASIO driver? (for instance; using media player to play the material while recording in Sonar using the equivalent to the "what u hear" input.) Not knowing Sonar I could be talking rubbish here.

Sounds like a workable (if tedious) solution would be to go back temporarily to the Creative driver, and go through your older songs, saving the wav files one at a time... Or else maybe converting the sampling rate at that moment with Sonar (if possible - I use Cubase...)

you can use a waveshaper like soundforge to resample audio files

True enough. I think Wavelab will do it, too.

I've always used 44.1 with the Creative driver, only because I found that Nero wouldn't burn audio CDs direct from 48k wav (or mp3 - can't remember which - it was a couple of years ago...) files. Now with kX I'll be in the same boat of having to re-sample my old stuff if I want to freshen it up...

You can use 44.1 khz just for playback since 3534 version or so. And you always can use Asio DirectX Full Duplex at 48Khz or 44.1 although you'll lose all routing capabilities. Both ways are good enough for mixing.
