mic input problem with creative asio driver

thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou kx guys - I was unable to use the mic input properly with the creative asio driver in cubase sx

I'm using Audigy 1 OEM card /Windows 2000 / Cubase SX1.06 with update
this is a straight card and doesn't have a separate connection panel

BEFORE
with the Creative ASIO driver

in SX the first input (1/2) is labelled as AC97 in - but only LINE IN is available

on looking at the card schematic I can't understand why this should be - but I've tried absolutely EVERYTHING and it definitely is the case!!

the 2nd input (3/4) is labelled mix buss pre eq

I can get the mic up on this buss but everything else is there too (eg: previously recorded tracks) - so that's no real use is it?

AFTER

now after installing the KX driver I can simply set the AC97 to work on mic - problem solved - hurraaaayyyyyy!!!!!!

I would recommend using the KX driver to anybody (probably thousands) having the same problem

Others may also be interested to note that (against KX advice) I installed the driver without uninstalling the Creative one but all seems well (the Creative driver ceases to work anyway)

contrary to the help file - the ASIO inputs were already set up


I know it's generally recommended to use an external mic pre-amp - but I have a minimalistic approach and find the card input quite acceptable - the spec is not too bad - and you don't need a balanced input if you are not running long mic leads - and it's one more bit of gear not needed
