??? Cracks when playing midi in Cubase SX with kX ASIO drivers

Hi to all,
I'm kind of new to Cubase and MIDI, so here is my problem. I have cubase SX v1.06 and d'cota, and a SB Live with kX drivers (and a computer based on an Athlon 750 MHz, which could be part of my problem...). I switched to the kX drivers because the creative drivers were horrible in Cubase, lots of scratching, stuttering, it was just bad. So I installed Kx Project drivers, and it seems to work a lot better. I have some questions however: in the ASIO driver part of the VST Multitrack window (devices/Device setup), I have the choice between 4 drivers: ASIO DirectX full duplex driver, ASIO multimedia driver, creative ASIO (where did it come from? I uninstalled those damn creative drivers, I didn't even think there was an ASIO creative driver!), and kX ASIO. The first one (directX) sounds OK, the sound is clean, but the latency is bothersome and I don't know how to reduce it. When I play several notes at the same time on my controller keyboard though (which is plugged in the SB gameport), like strings, the sound cuts every once in a while. Not so nice! What is the best combination number of buffers/buffer size? The second one has a latency of almost one second, so forget it. Of course I do'nt want to use the creative ASIO driver, so it leaves me with the kX driver. Problem is: when I use it, there are lots of scratches and stutters... just like the old creative driver! Well, not quite as bad, but still not very good. Could anybody tell me what the problem could be?

Last precision, I don't know if it matters at all, but i use a fatar SL161 studiologic keyboard controller.

VoilÃ*, that's about the extent of my problem... I hope somebody could tell me what to do. I'm a little lost with the kX settings, they are (or seem) a lot more complicated than the creative one... thanks for the help in advance!

if you have a via chipset, try to upgrade it. this is a known problem with creative products, and via chipsets.

i had the same problem, a chipset driver is sopose to fix it, but it didnt for me.

What kind of problem would you be talking about though? Everything else works fine... I can actually play MIDI songs with cracks, audio without cracks. Everything, except what I'm trying to do with cubase. Somehow, it doesn't seem like that could be the issue...

What did you do by the way? Do you still have the same problem?

I tried setting the kx dsp as explained in http://au.geocities.com/kxcubase, but I can't say it makes much of a difference. Is it my PC that's too slow? I can usually play groove agent well, it sounds great and it doesn't stutter, it stays well on the beat, but I can't record it because it stutters so bad during the recording.

Or, is there an ideal setting for the latency/number of disk buffers/size of buffers that I can't find? Would switching to something like Buzz or Reason help my case? I usually set the input in Cubase to "all midi inputs" when I use my keyboard controller, but I wonder what are kX Control CT4620 and kX Uart? What's the difference between those two? Is "all MIDI inputs" the recommended input when controlling the VSTs synths via a midi keyboard?

I didn't think it would be such a headache! I thought I was going to play music, instead I spend all my time trying to figure out solutions to problems...
