??? Before I go any further ... KX Questions

I have been doing some reading of various KX documents, and the KX DSP in particular, of it being THE source to do anything, and the KX Mixer isn't required if you "master" KX DSP.

First of all, I might be blown away by everything I've been reading, and the absortion rate appears to be minimal. Summer Allergies.
But I want to get a few things (I hope) out of KX.

Hardware = SB Audigy 2 ZS ( OEM ) SB0359 w/ no 1394 or midi port
O/S = XP SP2
Software: JAZZ++ (MIDI Editor) Van Basco for MIDI playback. REAPER for multi-track recording.

I have KX Mixer working, Soundfounts loaded & playing (still trying to determine what SF are best for me etc) BUT into the DSP side of it all, I was wondering if it was possible to RECORD simultaneous tracks of the LINE-In and AUX-IN into individual tracks. If not, then it's onto some other solution for multiple inputs. Note: I have yet to try SF in REAPER.

Question 1: are there config or settings files for the DSP ?
If so, where ?
If so, is there a real simple one, record from Line In and Aux In and MIDI Soundfond as separate tracks. Stereo playback(don't care about 5.1 etc). Don't need much more.

Question 2: Can I record Line In and AuX In "simultaneously" into separate tracks ?

Question 3: Can analog CD-In be "something else" ? I was thinking of rigging the output of my synth (2 1/4" outputs) to a Molex connector. This might be become three simultanous sources to record. Does anyone know if this will work, or does this input have to sync with the physical CD drive.

If there are any specific Threads that address this (sorry, I didn't find them) Point me.

Thanks for any assistance.

1) You can find some presets here: kX Preset Exchange System
You would have to look yourself to see if what is available.

2) I believe that it is possible to do what you want using the ProFx:ADC plugin (assuming your OEM model has same UDA chip as retail models).

3) AFAIK, you should be able to use analog CD-In for anything you want, but realize that it is an AC97 input, so it is not going to give you a third simultaneous (stereo) analog input. i.e. You can only use 2 (stereo) AC97 inputs at the same time (or 1 without UDA).

Thanks Russ for the LINK.
Sometimes the reading I've been doing with KX capabilities, is like buying a car, and not yet knowing how to drive.
The manual only takes you so far, and it's the hands-on experience is where you learn. That's how I feel.
One day ... it's gonna sink in.
I guess, I'm still stuck on the "physical" inputs and outputs, and relying on somewhat "old school" concept of analog mixers and SB Mixer for years.
Boy-O-boy, the Audigy 2 ZS is no PCI-128.

Yes, the hands on experience is what is gonna get you over that hump of learning how to use kX.

If you have not read it yet, I highly suggest you read the guide from the following thread: A newbie guide on kX's (DSP) concept or "How to setup your DSP".

- particularly the beginning where it explains about FxBus, prolog, and epilog.

Also, make sure to download the latest version of ProFx (do not use the bundled version).

Note: The above guide used an older version of ProFx, so some things will be slightly different. Use ProFx:ADC for any AC97 sources (Line In, Mic In, etc) instead of ProFx:Src plugins.

Also, note that ProFx:kxlt does not have any volume control (output is full volume), if you want volume control, use epilog instead.

IIRC (my card does not support it, so I have no hands-on experiance with it), to use two AC97 sources (for those cards that do support it), select the first AC97 source on the left hand side of the ProFX:ADC "tweak" window, and on the right hand side, enable the UDA option and then umute the slider for the second AC97 source that you want to use.
