SPdif in plays through whatever I do
I use my SBlive platinum for multitrack recording and thought I would connect another mixer with spdif output to get two extra tracks input. The trouble is it gets sent to the output unaffected by anything except the master volume or speaker controls. Any ideas?

What do you mean when you say that it is "unaffected by anything except the master volume or speaker controls"?
i.e.
What (specifically) are you trying to do with it that isn't working?

multitrack recording
I am using cubase to record. My main mixer goes into aux in 2 which works fine and I can control the monitored audio via the faders in cubase. The SPdif signal appears in the ASIO input in cubase and is recordable, but is also sent straight to the speaker outputs and is only affected by the speaker faders and the main fader in the KX mixer even with the DSP window cleared.

What DSP config are you using?
Assuming you are using the default DSP config, disconnect the connections between SPDIF In (prolog) and xrouting (disconnect at the xrouting end, thus leaving the connections between SPDIF In (prolog) and epilog, which is needed for your ASIO recording).

routing
already done this, have aux in2 and spdif routed directly to ASIO inputs in epilog. Still happens even with nothing connected at all in DSP. Driver Version: 5.10.00.3538 - debug

Found the problem, the FXmix plugin behaves as if there is an SPdif connected to channel 5 when nothing is visibly connected. Thanks for your replies anyway.
