Well, i got the asio inputs to show up, but now i'm having a problem with extream lag during recording. My friend, who is pretty good with KX setup, could not figure out what was causing this..

when i record. the metronome will sometimes lag, and when playing back, the audio will lag extreamly bad, sound like a duck quacking.

and the marker will get up a few seconds of the actual recording due to the lag slowing it down..

i've got a gig of memory, nothing is running when i try this in cubase. other programs, such as adobe audition wont even pick up any sort of input.

Try a higher latency setting (2.66ms is pretty low), start with something like 8ms and test, then lower it little by little and test to see what the lowest setting is that you can use.

Aside from the above, unless you are using Win98SE/ME, you might want to install the latest version of kX (currently 3538L), as ASIO performance is better in 3538L.

raising the MS did help a lot. but i had to take it to bout 43 or 56 before it would be decent enough to record with.. i thought a lower MS was always best? and i'm using Winxp by the way

Lower latency settings are better (more desireable) as far as getting as close to realtime performance goes, but lower settings require more system/CPU power, etc, so the lowest usable setting would depend on your system configuration.

Try 3538L (and the different ASIO sync methods to see which one works best for you), and only enable the inputs/outputs that you are actually using in the host software. Also, search the forum/internet for info on optimizing your system for audio.

When using VST effects, etc, with an external audio source (an instrument connected to your sound card, etc), then the lowest setting that you system can handle is what you want use, otherwise you may notice a delay between the time that you play the note, and the time that you hear the note, which can make it hard to play cleanly, etc. The lowest useable setting may differ from project to project (i.e. the number of VST effects as well as how much CPU those effects use, the number of tracks in the project, the number of ASIO inputs/outputs being used, etc, can all effect how low your are able to set the latency.).

If you do not need realtime processing of the audio signal, then a low latency setting is not necessary.
