Audigy line in

I have A SB LIve 5.1 and it suffers from the ac97 line in noise problem. Does Audigy suffer the exact same problem? And is the " Live Drive " an add on that I can buy and use without having to buy a new card? Also, I remember reading that Audigy had Optical in? And that this would allow more inputs, is this true?

Hello sumpm1.

The Audigy line-in is also an AC97 source.

Afaik, the LiveDrive is no longer available as a separate add-on, but you might be able to find one on Ebay or somewhere similar.

The Audigy Platinum has Optical-in on the AudigyDrive, however, this does not necessarily equate to more inputs. Even an older SBLive will typically have unused inputs available via the Aud_Ext connector (where a LiveDrive normally connects), but they are all digital, so you'd generally need to provide input in SPDIF format.

Regards,

/Hanz

Is there any way to tap into these spdif and use them as extra ANALOG inputs without external hardware(maybe an adapter?) Just praying here lol!

Also, can these extra inputs be used as competely seperate inputs that can be recorded as seperate tracks. For instance, if I had 3 asio inputs, could I connect 3 intruments and record 3 seperate tracks?

No, although you could use the SPDIF-out of a second soundcard to feed the first.

Yes, if you had 3 separate compatible sources.

Best of luck.
