I know that these have already been posted, but I have my own questions.


I have no previous experience with ASIO, as I bought this card for ASIO support(Thanks kx Team!)

The asio works Like a charm. I only plan on using the asio for real time effects and monitoring of my guitar. The wole reason that IU wanted asio is for a guitar fx processor no wires(I have my own hardware, but Amplitube kicks ass!) As everyone has mentioned , the line in noise is hideous when effects are applied to it. So this card is fine for monitoring and practicing guitar, but not real time recording or live performances.

Enough babble, here is my question. Is there anything that can be done on the softare level for say real time .fft noise removal that would triple the latency, but still give a respectable overall latency? Are there any tricks that I can doto lessen the noise(read about shorting the inputs, don't know what you mean, put plugs in the empty input holes?) I know this is noyt the best place to ask this, but do other asio capable cards suffer from the same noise?(not this chipset)

Yeah, I have the question about line in noise as well. It shows up on the decibel meter in my recording program . I do not have the direct interest in guitar input as you do, but i'd still like to know about this noice problem. I had to cut the AC97 volume slider in half just to get the noice floor below the -80 threshold. (The noise is around -70) Also, I get audible noise through my headphones when the Mic is the input (its a cheap mic, but man, I've never heard this much noise through it before when using the regular SB live drivers, and Mic Boost increases this noise much more than I've heard before.) Another thing I noticed is how processor intensive the ASIO is when running the ASIO Winamp plugin sampling at 48000 (A Sblive owner HAS to resample 44.1kHz to 48kHz anyway, or nothing will come out with ASIO ) Is the low latency of ASIO more processor instensive than WaveOut or DirectSound? I can weed out the resampling to be the drag, because I resample WaveOut and/or DirectSound to 48000 and don't get the same processor usage.

Also, what is the AC97 LineIn setting for? This is recording my WaveOut it seems and not my LineIn on the card. (It may not be the "WaveOut" but at least it is recording my Waves and mp3s). By simply unmuting AC97 in the Line Ins and Outs, it adds noise I can hear in my headphones, that is, it adds noise that gets louder as I turn it up to max.

Edit: Ah, the Cubase guide did the trick for the Input "Doubling itself". It got rid of it completely. As it did ANY sound playing or recording, and not just ASIO. I don't use Cubase, but I figured the rest of the setup would work regardless. I guess not...

Edit 2: I had unknowingly disabled the router, sound is back now. I notice that all disconecting the first two prolog to router connections is doing is disabling the ability to hear what is being recorded on my headphones. Now I understand why you would want to do that.

Edit 3: I guess you learn as you go. I just figured out that WaveOut is ALWAYS recorded. Is there any way to mute WaveOut recording? Also, does it hurt to leave AC97 (0/1) connected to ASIO (14/15)? Why not have it connected to ASIO (0/1)?

It won't let me "mute" it, I can drop the slider, but I don't have the option to mute, of course I thought of that, lol

Of course you have the option to mute it... The two circles under the slider are mute buttons...

Well, Wave/PCM at record page has no exact mute button but fader at minimum is identical to mute...

I use the buttons under the sliders to mute everything, but the Wave Recording Level Slider does NOT have a mute button. Who knows why. The Master Wave/PCM control has a mute, but that doesn't affect the recording.

Yeah, that is what I will do then...also: so I assume the WAVE/PCM output slider is there for compatibility only. Why can't they put one on there that works for Winamp? This means you cannot control your WAV/PCM output volume with these drivers, which is a mild problem. So what about mine and sumpm1's other questions?
