Line in noise
Hi,
I already read about the problem with AC97 Line-in noise levels. To me they are just unacceptable. I play and record guitar through Cubase SX and IK Amplitube. When I want some hi-gain sound the noise actually is louder then my quiet notes on the guitar. The noise from the card seem to be amplified from -60 dB to -30dB and that is too much. Can I re-route or do anything to avoid this problem (I don't have a LiveDrive so...). |

Only solution: get a live drive or buy another soundcard...

I never run the guitar direct t the input.I always amplify the signal before it goes into the card.
The guitar isnt meant to be fed into a line level input and you need to amplify it before the card to eliminate noise.I have the same setup as you..and no noise that is disturbing. Bluelight |

Hi,
What kind of equipment do you use? Is it a preamp? I have Trace Elliot Twin Valve amp (an old valve amp, kicks ass), but I can't amplify a signal since the higher gain would mean distorted signal, and higher master volume would mean a medium sized earthquake. Any tips on amplifying the signal? Thanx |

Well i actually use an old Boss distorsion named DS-1 i think.I run it in "bypassmode" so the distorsion is not used at all.
In bypass mode it does not add any gain to the signal.....but....the signal coming from the pedal is better adated to feed the line input than the guitar direct into trhe line input.Doing this i also get better frequency response.I think this has to do with the resistance of the guitars output. The best thing to use for you is maybe a simple good quality pedal preamp designed for guitar. I have a mixer to and i have tried running the guitar into the line feed of this one and then to the card....but ...no....i eneded up putting the pedal first ... The pedals are adapted to take signal from guitars and send them further... Hope that helps. |
