it ONLY mutes the AC97 outputs when off - UDA outputs stay active. Turing it back on, does as I'd expect (AC97 outputs are active again)

So to be clear;
After UDA_ON 'killed' your AC97 output, toggling the RED rec source button OFF->ON
re-activates your correct AC97 ouputs again?
Just as re-selecting AC97 Rec Source does (in your case).

Right?

Sorry, I didnt try the record enable switch with the AC97 killed before...
[*slaps me-self for not thinking of that*]

YES - that does also fix it...
