foobar/Asio/dts

Hello kx savants,

I have several dts wav audios (5.1 channels, 44khz) which I can successfully play in foobar2000 with the foo_dts plugin. I am now looking for the ultimate (and best working) sound setup for my Audigy 2.

For output, I have used kernel streaming so far, but it produces audible pops now and then, especially when I resample to 48khz inside of foobar2000. Now, I have tried to output the sound via an ASIO(exe) plugin, and ran into various problems.

If interfacing with ASIO4ALL to kx wave out 0/1 , foobar complains about "unsupported output data format". When using kx HQ wave out, foobar starts playing for a moment, but then Windows XP crashes to blue screen or freezes.

If interfacing with kx ASIO, foobar does indeed play with good quality... but only two channels. ASIO control panel is set to:

Latency: 21,33 ms
Format: 16 bit / 48khz [16+16] (DSP PPHS 48jhz resampler in foobar active)
Sync: m0

I have not been able to set 24 bit sound output, foobar either crashes or kx gives an error about "latency too high/too many channels".

Now, my question is if there's any way to output all channels via ASIO.
Further info about my setup:

- 2 analogue hifi speakers connected to REAR plug, swapped to FRONT
- 2.1 digital speakers connected to digital out, routed to REAR via DSP
- kx Speaker Mode 4.1, Surrounder off

Has anybody else played around with this stuff or can give me some pointers?
Thanks in advance!

That wasn't the question, but thanks for writing something.

Maddogg6 will become famous soon enough

I dont see any plugins that make use of multiple (more than 2) ASIO channels, so unless that exists, it seems the only benefit of using asio is for lower latency when using a bunch of foobar dsp effects, and not for multiple channel stuff, but I have to say - I'm not that familiar with foobar. This would be better asked on foorbar's forums I'd think.??

It interfaces directly with the kx asio driver and since I see stuff like [8+8] in the config panel - which I assume are channels? - I thought I'd start here.

Software wise you may be able (i use Creative drivers and don't know if the kx drivers are more 'flexible') to direct Foobar (asio) output to all channels of your card by the multichannel output settings (speaker settings). I'm not sure if you can route outputs as you mentioned and if you would see/set the digital output with analog output simultaenously (never tried this myself because I do not use digital out with audigy 2 card). I assume you can output analog and digital simultaenously (least with some creative card models).

Here are some instructions (not the BeatPort Player part, but what becomes after it) for winamp --> you also need to DL the Winamp bridge for foobar -plug to get Winamp plugins into use on foobar --> and get this method work with Foobar (I use Foobar2k v. 0.8.3).

You maybe like also to try some stereo to surround sound plugins with energyXTE.

I think you'd do this with multiple src pro DSP plugin in the DSP window, and by selecting your own KX Router ASIO routings in the settings corresponding to multiple channel pairs. Use the k2lt output module in the DSP window and don't forget to try the b2b plugin if you have a 48khz source....

If you look into the pins on the k2lt DSP plugin code, you should be able to get multple channels of ASIO audio output quite easily. Not sure about the ADC(s), though.

Have fun!
