Supreme
Commander is one of the hottest PC games out right
now. Featuring maps that are over 6400 square kilometers
in size with highly detailed landscapes and units,
one has to wonder why our PCs don’t melt under
the load.

The
results are surprisingly in favor of XP, which was
unexpected to say the least. After doing some extra
benchmarks we came to the conclusion that Supreme
Commander being a very demanding game made all the
flaws of the Vista drivers apparent. What the graphs
don’t show is how the performance deteriorated
much faster in Windows XP though. While the game
remained playable at all times, it only took a few
hundred units (played against 2 supreme AI opponents)
to almost halve the framerate in Windows XP, whereas
the Vista installation took a significantly less
noticeable drop.
