Computex 06 - Allan
"Zardon" Campbell
Cyber Snipa

Cyber Snipa had a smaller booth displaying
their impressive range of gaming accessories as well as a system
running the latest incarnation of Unreal Tournament. Their products
really do deserve further attention and we will be sampling
several of their products on Driver Heaven very shortly. I was
personally impressed with the tracking of the gaming mouse on
the pad and managed to take down a bot player with one hand
while taking a picture of the screen with the other. A total
fluke, but it impressed some nearby Asian ladies so it was good
enough for me.
Silverstone
I feel it is fair to say that Silverstone had
one of the most impressive booths on display, not because of
semi naked asian ladies adorning the tables or for wacky crowd
interaction based "competitions" but just for the
sheer quality of their chassis. They really do make some of
the highest quality aluminium cases i have seen. We sat down
with several of their representatives and they educated us on
the fact that the higher end chassis they sell are hand made
with various techniques being used to carefully round the edges
to create a wonderful end product. Several sections of these
cases are 8mm thick aluminium !
They had on display a dual xeon, SLI based
system which was pumping out some serious frame rates on the
demonstration software they were running. The image above right
is a good indication of the quality of the aluminium edging
they imploy in their manufacturing process.
Silverstone have also a range of chassis dedicated
to cooling with obvious homage to "old style" technophile
audio design. In the image above left you can see how the water
cooling is running down a pipe system built into the outer chassis
shell. Innovative.

Another radical design was the "all in
one" media style pc with interactive screen fashioned into
the chassis. The product was not entirely finished and we were
told they were going to be redesigning the screen area to accommodate
a rubber mounting as when the screen was pushed into the lowest
position it was resting against the front of the case. Below
you can see some more of the products they had on display.

Supermicro

Supermicro had a small booth with basically
two walls of motherboards being the prime focus of attention.
This particular motherboard above caught my attention as it
is capable of handling 64 gigabytes of ram in 16 dimm slots
... Kiss goodbye to your bank account !
Tagan

We managed to have a long chat with Tagan,
and they were keen to show us their new 1100w SLI approved Power
supply, particularly geared for Quad SLI in a heavily overclocked
system - yes, those of you will sharp eyesight have read that
right, four 12v rails with 20a on each !
We will be following up on this article with
more goodies from Computex later this week but for now its back
to the AMD, ATI and VIA parties. Those
crazy Asians..... (quicktime - right click,
