| XTREEM
memory module from Thermal Group Inc
Unfortunately we couldn’t see this module
on test; that’s if it was actually possible
to fit more than one side by side with the size
of the heatpipe cooler mounted on top. It was on
display in a very small booth, obviously rushed
together, you’ll notice they failed to finish
the last sentence of the description.
PQI pink USB flash drive
Something
for the girlfriend, this cute little flash drive
would be the perfect gift to surprise your special
“other half” on one knee in a small
velvet ring box. It comes complete with a delicate
steel chain to wear around the neck.
On
a more serious note, solid state drives seem to
be the flavour of the month at the moment. This
fine 128GB example from PQI in a 3.5” form
factor is capable of around 25MB per second, setting
you back around $4000. Ouch.
DVD
rental booth
We’re very surprised we haven’t seen
one of these before; this ingenious kiosk is capable
of taking credit card and membership cards, and
dishing out up to 1000 rental DVDs. Each DVD is
housed in a purpose made DVD case, and tagged with
an RFID chip around the centre of the disc. The
kiosks are already being sold in Japan, US, New
Zealand and Australia, but we should see them popping
up around Europe soon. Before you think about investing
however, a lower 330 capacity version will set you
back around $13,000 based on a quantity of around
50 units.
Coolermaster
customised cases
Some very impressive modified cases from Coolermaster’s
customers were featured along one side of Coolermaster’s
booth this year. Among 6 designs, this one caught
our eye (below); it’s got to be the only PC
dressed as some sort of shrine. It certainly looked
like a lot of hard work had gone into the craftsmanship
of this case, although someone could have put a
little more effort into the plastic model in the
middle.
The
Aquagate SI is
presumable named after its application; System Integration.
The easy to fit and simple design means this watercooling
solution could be installed very easily by a computer
manufacturer, without incurring too much fitting
cost or support issues. Alienware, watch out!
