programs are all gunna be on different cycles, you'r not going to find anything "fair" like you want....ever.
Personally though, I hate IE with a passion..it's ugly, and a rescource hog. Firefox is nice, but has more compatibility issues then it should. Maxthon is nice, simpyl because it adds all the plusses of firefox, with the convenience/simplicity of IE. Opera though, after Allan talked me into trying it, I must admit, is a whole nother animal. |

To be honest, after having tried a lot of browsers out there (to test for compatibility and features), I've ended up using Opera and Maxthon (an IE shell which offers tabbing). I find Opera to be much faster than Firefox and includes more features straight out of the box. I'm a fan of eye candy too, so I'd like to see something pretty rather than spartan/simplistic. Opera's page rendering speed is unmatched, it's much faster than Firefox (and IE, of course ). It's also the first browser that introduced gestures, a feature that I came to love because it makes me work much quicker. At the moment, Firefox is ok as a base browser, but I found Opera to be overall faster, prettier, more compatible and more feature packed - which is why I choose to use this one over Firefox. "Making the change" is not a biggie for me - I've switched between loads of programs for different things until I chose the best ones for MY needs - done it in the past and I'll keep doing it in the future. Programs change all the time, new ones appear, old ones change or don't offer as much functionality. This thread is about discussing personal opinions, which, surprisingly, does not make people "fanboys" if they choose one product over another - it's their choice, that's why it's good to have a variety and not only one program for each thing.

Wow, its funny that some get so worked up over a browser conversation. I am an Opera "fanboy" i guess. i've tried every browser out there, several versions or them, and Opera fits my needs the best. The standards compliance is great and the speed is unmatched on my machine. IMO, its the only browser that made tab browsing tolerable and easy, and I have recently been using the mouse gestures.
I used firefox for a while, but the constant, annoying update system, and system of updating extensions drove me nuts. Also I don't like the system of configuration. i also had annoying problems with rendering pages, especially at high resolutions, so I trashed it untill it gets better. Firefox as a whole just doesn't feel pollished, more like a never ending eta client that seems to get worse every update. IE is easy, but is lacking in features that i like and the bookmark system and user interface sucks (IMO). the next version intrigues me, as long as there can bee some skinning ability. Its also very slow (something that kills me when i use 56k, very noticable some of you might remember). I also have scaling issues with it at high resolutions. I still use it every day, namely for Posting News at DH, system updates, etc. and have never had a security problem with it, for the record. overall, I encourage everyone to try out all the browsers. If people chalange the companies to make their browser better, something that i personally think died with the popularity of firefox, we all win. opera is the underdog now, I think they work twice as hard, just to get a 1/2 percentage of the market share, and it shows with their browser. Firefox seems to have this following that only use it becuase its microsofts big competetor, that doesn't help anyone (dont get your panties in a bunch some of you, I'm not addressing anyone here).

You know the more I think about it, there really is no comparison right now with the browsers. the only reason I could defend firefox is due to the wonderful extensions that browser has. IE, well I use IE and its not "bad" but you are right there are some nice GUI's for the code. |

Well you've convinced me to guve Opera a try. I've been a 100% user of Firefox since version 0.8 but I'm willing to give it a go, especially in light of the new free verision (with no ads)
