tools.

quick preferences.

enable gif animation. turn it on.

opera is totally customisable with options for almost everything to do with surfing, i recommend you spend a few hours looking through all the menus, you will be blown away by the options they give the end user

Thanks again, it works just fine now!

Anytime, it is quite powerful, you have a vast array of options available. generally when I install opera I only do a few tweaks as it is so well set up by default.

I install the meguiDdo skin (which rocks with midnight heaven on this site).

then go preferences and set up WAND for forms.

then go into appearance, toolbars and put the progress bar "pop up at bottom of the page", so it shows site loading in the bottom section of the browser.

Apart from that it really is very well set up at default and you can rest assured its been proven to be tighter than even firefox in regards to security.

by far my favourite browser although I use them all for testing webdesign and pages with (you would be surprised the rendering differences between opera/IE and firefox).

Also if you have some time today, head over to this standard's compliancy site and test out the browsers with this.

http://www.webstandards.org/act/acid2/test.html

I know it sounds boring, but it shows just how far ahead of all other windows browsers Opera is with regards to rendering and future standards.

Also have you played with mouse gestures yet Warpy. give them a shot, hard to use anything else after you try them.

easiest and most useful two are for going backward and forwards on pages.

hold the right button while clicking the left to go "back".
hold the left button while clicking the right to go "forward".

loads more but experiment with those two.

Sounds good, thanks for the tips... I am going to check out that website now, I have also downloaded that theme you mentioned too and will try the mouse gestures out whilst I wait for my pizza to arrive

if you read that you will understand more about standards and what exactly its all about.

Also try rendering the test with internet explorer. scary stuff.

I just compared the two browers with that link you gave me and I am kinda "gob smacked!". IE won't even render the image, in fact it looks like a 3 yr olds attempted to scribble something down! That's really shocking to see, I wonder if many people know about this!

I am going to read that guide now...

"Acid2 is a test page for web browsers published by The Web Standards Project (WaSP). It has been written to help browser vendors make sure their products correctly support features that web designers would like to use. These features are part of existing standards but haven't been interoperably supported by major browsers. Acid2 tries to change this by challenging browsers to render Acid2 correctly before shipping."

I guess Microsoft forgot about this website, or even the concept of providing a toolset that works properly!

Funny thing is, I quite like internet explorer, but yeah the standards support (or lack of) is quite shocking.

firefox is decent, opera is almost perfect, but IE......well.......

I just put the toolbar at the bottom, the progress bar "pop up at bottom of the page", and it looks awesome I can now see it rendering each section in Kb/sec - this is great stuff, glad I moved to Opera, everything is very well above board with this software.

I agree it would be my first choice easily. I have followed opera for years now, and the development was always what I would describe as "patchy". Meaning they would release a version which would fix something and break something else, it was a hard browser to work with and develop for, remaining for a long time the choice of those on dialup, due to its speed and options for removing graphics etc.

However when I started beta testing V8 a while ago I knew they had finally "cracked" it, everything just fell into place and the coding was the best yet. When they released it unfortunately I dont think its got tne credit it has deserved primarily I feel due to the fact no one wanted ads on their browser and most kids wouldnt want to pay for it, especially as they had a good free alternative in firefox.

However I love their recent PR stunt on their birthday, it has gotten the software to a much wider audience and I finally think people are starting to appreciate its speed, high rendering standards and overall customisation ability as well as being the proven choice for maximum security.

I do hope it gets the credit it so rightly deserves, I paid for it years ago and recently made a sizeable donation to the company. They are great guys behind the scenes too, very dedicated.

I agree, I think DH members need to know about it. I only downloaded it cause I saw Zardon's sig and wondered why it was so good. That caused me to post the question and then try it. I shall not be looking back and plan on donating for Opera soon.

I wanted to review it a while ago, but getting time isnt easy to do it right, especially with the amount of reviews we are putting up lately. ill try and work it into my schedule and hopefully once I shake this flu I can get it done.

In the meantime guys, if you really think its as good as I do, put it in your signatures, and spread the word. educate people.

Word of mouth goes a long way.

well some people take some time to convince after all your attitude hasnt lessened in the time you have been here, no matter how many times the mods tell you to tone it down.
