Incomplete Firefox Uninstall?
I recently uninstalled FireFox 1.0 public release because alot of the pages I view do not show up correctly (nothing bad about the program, it was great otherwise). The program uninstalled fine (its not under Program Files anymore), but I believe remnants might still be apparent in the registry. For example, the icons for .htm and .html files use the FireFox icon, but they open in IE. When I go to File Types tab under Folder Options (CP), the IE icon shows up instead. When I click Restore it reverts to a FireFox icon. Also, the IE page icon does not show up in the Address Bar in IE (it is a generic document icon).
Not a huge problem, but if there's anyway to cure it, I'd be happy to hear it.

for win XP.
go to \Documents and Settings\< your user name >\Local Settings\Application Data, then locate and delete the file called "IconCache.db". note-- Local Settings, Application Data, IconCache.db are hidden files/folders, reset your folder options to show them. then go to Strat -> Run and type inetcpl.cpl then hit return/enter key, the Internet Properties open, click on "Programs" tab, click Reset Web Settings..., and check the option "Internet Explorer should check to see whether...", click Apply, OK. then open IE, answer YES if you are prompted to set it as default browser. then reboot your PC, the IconCache file will be recreted by Windows. see if these helps. if not, redo the setting of the Internet Properties steps, but this time login as "Administrator" first. and see.. if the above does not help either, go to this page http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm scroll down or use IE's Find (Ctrl+ F) to locate the "Set Internet Explorer as my default browser" on the page, then D/L and run the "IE_Default_Browser.reg", note-- this reg fix can be used only when your IE is installed in its default location (C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer). note2-- while D/L or when you try to run the .reg file you may recieve a warning that says The publisher could not be verifiled... Are you sure you want to run this software?, you can accept it the file is good. if it's still, all of the above doest not help, pls post back. |

im a FREAK
|
i recently uninstalled firefox rc1 before i updated to the final release, but there was a couple of days that i used ie in between.i used regseeker 1.35 and searched for anything firefox or mozilla related and then did a scan for invalid dlls and exe files.i had no problems or reminents of firefox. and ie was as normal after i did this.i do this after every uninstall or update of programs or patches or whatever,i never install anything over the top even if the readme says you can.it just keeps your system running alot smoother.the only problems i have anymore is when there is a problem with a installer package or a screwed up patch release like farcry 1.2 that took me three days to find everything before 1.3 would install.later
