ClipClear 3.1.1 15KB.http://www.moonsoftware.com/files/ClipClear_311.zip

Quote:
originally from the program site and clipclr.txt
ClipClear is a tiny proggie that just clears your clipboard contents. It installs itself into the tray area (near the clock) and allows you to clear the clipboard by just clicking on its icon.
Why? If you work with large data massives (images, audio, video etc) and copy them to the clipboard for transferring from one application to another, then, after pasting the info to another application, the data usually remains in the clipboard too, taking up a lot of memory resources. Clearing the data from the clipboard frees this memory.
ClipClear's icon changes its appearance if there is something in the clipboard. You can also launch Windows Clipboard Viewer through ClipClear easily.
Installation
============
Unzip files into directory of your choice and make shortcut to the ClipClr.exe into your StartUp group, so ClipClear will automatically start each time you start system. To remove it from your system, you just need to delete the files - there is no settings in registry or in another folders.
no need to auto start just make a shortcut to it. ok for 2k & XP.

INDEX.DAT VIEWER v2.1 290 KB. d/l : http://www.exits.ro/dwl/IndexView.exe
read more : http://www.exits.ro/index-dat-viewer.html
Quote:
originally from the program site
A tool to view your index.dat files. In case you don't know what these files are, they are files where Windows secretely store information about your browsing habits. Just download the application to see what they store there. You will be surprised. You can see the history secret files as well. These files keep unbelievable records about every file and URL you open on your machine.
-----------------------------
index.dat file locations (may very and/or could be more on yours)
X:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Cookies\
X:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\
X:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\UserData\
X:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\
to delete the files(at your own risk).. just log off and login as "administrator" and you can easily find and delete all of it then log back in without having to reboot.(to use command prompt, 3rd party progarm or a batch file will/may not get all of it) when i periodically delete the file i gain more.. performance from IE (fix some of problems/bugs in IE), security and secret. remember this.. the file keeps a record of all and every file you open on your machine not only web sites you've visited.

Delete "C:\WINNT\Cookies\index.dat" which is perfectly feasible from win2k (logged in as admin).

I still get a number of cookies, all from "Jun 11, 2002; 07:11", probably some system error in that day.

CleanUp!

Quote:
CleanUp! is a powerful and easy-to-use application that removes temporary files created while surfing the web, empties the Recycle Bin, deletes files from your temporary folders and much more. CleanUp! frees disk space and reduces the "clutter" on your computer helping it to run more efficiently. It also can be used as a way to protect your privacy on the Internet. You can even instruct CleanUp! to securely delete files making it impossible to retrieve their contents using lower-level disk tools.
http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

This little app clears everything you can think of. It works for Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator and Opera, clearing caches, history folders, temporary directories. Cleaning options are customizable, of course. Installer size is 250kb.

ok about deleting index.dat file.. asa you log back in, windows will recreate new files with the correct references to your cached internet files and this should help explain "i gain more.. performance from IE (fix some of problems/bugs in IE)"!?!.
it has nothing to do with cookies, caches and histories removal if you dont want to keep the cookies then delete it ->start/run(windows key + R) type in %userprofile%\cookies ..delete all cookies in there.
and if you've deleted everything, you should see blank windows in the "index.dat viewer".

I don't like textpad one bit. It fux0red my java prog that i wrote when i did syntax allignment and formatting. Its not very nice to use either. On linux i like kwrite. It even does vhdl highlighting. On windows i wrote my own called goaliepad (which i use for java, scripting, and web) though most of the time i use dev-c++.

re PQ DI2002, IMO, very easy to use and no problem at all when using it to make an image.. but i'll get about 50% chance on getting "Error 1831" when trying to restore the image(friends of mine gets same result).
and the DI wont support USB2(CD-RWs) / Firewire(external drives) / network drives in DOS mode!

Run your XP at peak speed with this defragmenter!
Defragmenter http://www.abexo.com/
Quote:
originally from the program site
Defragmenter Pro Plus is a utility to automate the necessary steps for an efficient and problem-free disk defrag.
Just click Ok, turn off your screen and go to bed. Defragmenter Lite/Pro will:
1. Clean up hard disk.
2. Remove the pagefile (swapfile).
3. Disable running applications.
4. Run Windows/DOS Scandisk.
5. Run Windows/DOS defrag disk.
6. Set the pagefile (swapfile).
7. Enable running applications.
8. Shutdown/Restart Windows.
This version of Defragmenter includes disk cleanup functionality and command line capability for automation purposes.
i've found it better than "set it -n- forget it" from diskeeper

Seems like a good app for 9x/Me. Diskeeper excells in boot time defragmenting (directory consolidation & page file defragmenting). I like the smart daily defrag, it doesn't get in the way at all... If you use the server version, there's an extra applet which is called Frag Guard. What it is does is ensuring that there is no fragmentation in the paging file. It can schedule boot time defrags if needed which are speedy provided you performed one previously. Basically, after I install Diskeeper I defrag manually and boot time also manually. The rest is hassle free, I don't need to click anything else in what regards deframentation, ever.

Disk Cleanup would be a plus, indeed.

Nope, but the feature was not implemented for the sake of safety. Rapid Restore PC performs the same in what regards CD-RW media. Both programs do not allow you to use CD-RW because those disks are known to be unsafe... I know I have several CD-RW disks that I have used literally hundreds of times. I wouldn't want to use them for back-up purposes. A mistake is easy to make, PQDI and RRPC make sure you don't do it... If it's a back-up/recovery program it should be very safe... CD-RW media for back-ups is not safe...

Always loved this one:

SpaceMonger

clip:

SpaceMonger is a tool for keeping track of the free space on your computer. Each file or folder on a given drive is displayed in a box in the main window whose size is a relative comparison to all the other files in your system. So, for example, if the "Windows" box takes up 90% of the screen, the "C:\Windows" folder and all its sub-folders and files are taking up 90% of your "C:" drive.

PQDI 7 will let you put the image on a DVD if you like and that is really nice and works great. We use Ghost here at work and I tell you I like PQDI MUCH better......

If you mean NORTON INTERNET and VIRUS I agree!.. If you set it to autoupdate and use thier site (Symantec) to run periodical security checks (Ports, tracking etc) you'll be surfing tighter than a clam. Oddly enough I'm running without it on this PC at the moment as I'm trying out XP Pros own firewall and security features (well why not?) However my other two PCs which come into contact (are used by) clients and teenage son have NORTON firmly in-place. Norton has mangaed to catch all sorts of nasties creeping down the wires into my PCs. Only exception was one unamed hack attack trojan but even those will manifest as errors on a scan ( always scan and update weekly ). Combine this with Mirosoft critical updates and you'll feel safe and secure.

However always check that you have: Turned off XP firewall if using NORTON
Upadte, update and update.
Never turn off firewall online unless you know you are 100% stealthed

Here is my long list of very useful programs!!

The following programs are the ones I install before I make an image of my boot drive partition.

1. WinRAR: A good compression utility.

2. NoAds: It's similar to Analog X's POW pop-up killer.

3. Analog X Cookiewall: Cookie manager.

4. NAV 2003: Antivirus

5. ZoneAlarm Pro 4: Very good firewall

6. WinStyles, WindowBlinds, Icon Packager, and CursorXP. These programs together allow you to change your Desktop theme completely. Everything from Taskbar, menus, control panel, IE bar, icons, cursors, etc. It's very easy to switch back and forth among different themes and is stable.

7. Aida32: A great system diagnostic utility.

8. Acronis TrueImage 6.0: This is what I use now to create an image backup of my hard drive. I tried DriveImage and Ghost before. DriveImage was a POS and Ghost was very good. Once I tried TrueImage, I've never looked back. You can even create an image while running Windows! No more boot to DOS mode.

9. Alcohol 120%: Creates images from CDs and DVDs. Also, creates virtual CD/DVD drivers for emulation purposes.

10. DivX Pro: A MPEG-4 player that's better than WMA 9.0 or others, IMHO.

11. Fraps 2.0: You can capture screenshots of games or capture game motion at up to 30fps.

12. Lavasoft AdAware 6.1: Adware and spyware catcher.

13. Spybot Search and Destroy v1.2: Adware and spyware catcher.

14. Nero Burning ROM Ultra Edition v6.0.0.15

15. Norton Ghost 2003: Creates an image backup of your hard drive and/or partition. Ever since I discovered TrueImage, I haven't used this.

16. Offline Commander: Save any web page for later viewing. Very, very easy to use.

17. Pest Patrol v4: Spyware and adware removal program.

18. TweakUI: Configure your Windows installation.

19. Diskeeper Server Edition: It works better than the home/personal version. Defragments your hard drives very quickly and thoroughly.

20. CopyURL

21. ChangeEXT

22. File-Ex

These are lots of programs installed on my computer (not counting games and office suites!) but they all play nicely with each other and have never crashed my computer.

20. CopyURL

21. ChangeEXT

22. File-Ex
