I haven't tried it out myself Mike. I find AV programs a lot like CD and DVD burning software the users preference usually plays a big role in the selection. I have a buddy who just loves Zone Alarm and it works well for him and I can't stand it

Re: What is the best most user frendly anti virus software out there?

Oh..erm..gulp. Glad I saw this topic, it's reminded me that my Kaspersky licence runs out in 7 days. For years i've used AVG free but after it let one nasty slip the net forcing a re-format I decided to hunt around for an alternative. I saw Kaspersky8 on offer at my local PC world and decided to give it a try. It does seem very (assume a goldmember accent) Toit and safe but has thrown up the odd false positive oddly when downloading logitech and creative drivers. I definitely think i'll be renewing in the next few days.

thanks for the link
I knew that Linux was somehow unaffected by windows viruses but was not absolutely sure.

Just installed Fedora on my other rig to play around with, but having trouble with sound card installation. otherwise i have not used it for long enough to be proficient lol thanks again.

Absolutely nonsense. I haven't had a virus infection in years using avast and its the only one I tested to use the lowest resources and no CPU as it operates. It also doesn't throw a ton of false positives at you either, which irriates the hell out of me when I get them from other clients.

NOD32 is actually quite good, but I wish people would be more constructive in this thread rather than saying something "sucks ass". Sounds like a kindergarden response.

Cheers and no problemo on the link man. That's what I use on Ubuntu on the dual boot on the other machine and no issues with it

On Avast I never personally had a issue with it ...

EDIT: What do you think of Pidgin? Ubuntu comes bundled with it and FF

It's open source and originally was Linux only even though there are Windows versions now. Fedora doesn't come with it?

NOD32 is apparently very good. Right now I'mon a 2 year subscription with McAfee, and really not liking it at all. I constantly have to let the program fix my security status, which somehow always resets...grr

I put Microsoft's Security Essentials on my family members PC's and they seem to really like it. I may end up swapping Nod32 out for it on my PC if the program continues to get stellar reviews.

Security essentials seem pretty good, it's easy and low overhead, but I don't know about it's real time protection because I don't end up on sites where I would need it much. I've heard it's good for this, just never experienced it personally........

Get the free MS Security Essentials - it works well and is much lighter than Avast on system resources!

MSE caused some trouble with Comodo...once removed all was well and the system is much better responsive.

Re: What is the best most user frendly anti virus software out there?

I picked up the three year family pack for Avast when I built my Windows Home Server system and I absolutely enjoy the fact that I don't really have to worry about it. Sure I will right click on newly downloaded programs and have the program scan it, but Avast pretty much scans your system without bothering you about it. Very nice abuser friendly virus program. Doesn't even eat up a lot of resources either.

Could be just me or my brushes with Linux but Using a Microsoft product to
secure Microsoft product seems a little bit absurd to me. Having used Norton
antivirus for years, MacAfee, kaspersky and many others over the years. I’ve
settled on Avast. It’s good, light and best of all it can be used free for home
users.

Also in my opinion all anti viruses should be used with preventive and anti
spyware/malware tools like lavasoft ad aware S&D Spybot and spywareblaster.
Should be all most people need othen then a basic firewall.

Do you really think it's safer (more secure) to not use a Microsoft tool on a Windows platform, ahem?

Not sure you have a point here.

Dude all the experimenting on that machine can lead to the hard drive getting damaged from all the formatting and re formatting, but Experimenting is also a Good way to learn what works and what does not.

I heard that particular myth before, but it's not true. Formatting does not damage a hard drive in any way. So, knock yourself out.

P.S. Why are we responding to this cold thread?
