Hey take a look at kaspersky antivirus 8.0 It is better than 7.0 and tighten your protection plus it is very easy to use.

I recently installed Antivir by Avira. If you have the free version then after installing it the only thing you have to do is click on an OK ad message promoting the full version appears whenever it automaticaly updates itself. I imagine if you get the paid version which is cheap, you wouldn't even get that.

Re: What is the best most user frendly anti virus software out there?

I'm using Norton's Corp Ver 10.1 and it seems to work just fine (home use/retail ver sucks as far I'm concerned). As Judas as pointed out though, safe surfing along with any of these products and your probably good to go. If your getting infected, the problem may not be the software but surfing habbits to begin with.

As you mentioned that your boss was asking you, then depending on what your doing, how many people your looking this up for, a corp or enterprise version is what you should be looking for and that might mean that you get completely different answers here.

Just some thoughts. Good luck picking one out.

Symantec corporate was a good app, havent used it in years so im not sure how it fares now. I went through a phase for months of trying all the applications out there and I ended up purchasing Avast Pro which i use on all my machines several of which are on 24/7. Havent had a problem for several years, thats the highest recommendation I can give. I also did extensive testing and it was also one of the few which doesnt affect performance at all, particularly in gaming.
Hey Z, have you by chance given Norton 2009 a run through for performance testing? I've read they claim to have tuned down the resource hogging of their product and I was wondering from someone I believe if it is true... Or do you think Avast is still the best bet out there for 09?

Dunno about you guys but i wouldn't touch a norton product with a VERY VERY VERY long stick It embeds itself into your system and is damn near fricken impossible to get rid of

Still using ESET Nod32 but this time on Vista 64...still rocks. I also like the ESET Security Suite for the way it handles spam emails.

I am using right now BitDefender IS 2009. It's very silent with the option of Gaming Mode just pressing a custom combination of keys.
I have tried many other solutions last year but in the end i bought BitDefender.
That's just my opinion about the most user-friendly AV.

The best is to download the free trials of the most known AV suits and try by yourself! (As i did)

I have been using free Antivir for almost 2 years lost faith in Norton's and Kaspersky long ago. I use this along with Spybot S&D and CWshredder and I have had no virus issues on this build. It works fine on Vista X64 and Windows 7 X64 beta

Here is a fix for that ad if your still running it:

Re: What is the best most user frendly anti virus software out there?

AVG Pro, which you can actually get for free! Download the pro version here, and use the key *****************. It's a bulk 145,000 user license that expires in 2018, and no crack is required. Full protection and updates are available, though the allotted user-count is doubtless filling up, so grab it quick!

I know you only wanted to help out here, but spreading keys for a program that isn't free is not allowed here at DH.

RealityRipple, just a friendly word of warning: if it's illegitimate, whether you know it or not, it's against the forum rules to post it. It's up to you, but it might be wise to remove the key from the post before the mods do... and more.

Is it illegitimate, though? The AVG server accepts it as a completely legit key.

I see a couple of 6 month trial keys but they have expired long ago. On this one where did you get it because corporate keys used for businesses and educational institutions allow multiple registrations.

Just for you own safety Andy you might want to remove that key from your post until you are sure ... just a note from a friend

think about it for a second 140,000 x $37.99 CDN funds for a 1yr subscription = $5,318,600.00. I wish i could afford to give away 5 million or $50 million if you multiply that between now and 2018

Maybe another AV company bought the key and released it to put AVG out of business?

Also, AVG 8 won't be around for 10 years, so I don't think it's quite sensible to calculate it like that.

You really think they'd sell a key for 145,000 seats and charge the same price as individual keys? No one would buy bulk from them. It's the same principle behind Wal-Mart killing companies like Vlasic.

Then why would they provide a license til 2018? Bro your a great guy and that's the reason I posted my concern earlier. Some things that seem to good to be true usually are and this seems fishy to me.

I have been wrong before and openly admit when I am ask the guys here .. this doesn't seem right to me *shrugs*

Because it's a simple ten years away (from 2008)... In a few months, AVG 8.1 will be out, and this key will likely be useless anyway.

Re: What is the best most user frendly anti virus software out there?

avg and avast are great. i've used both, currently i'm using avast and it seems light on resources and is no bother whatsoever. take a look at user reviews on download.com and you should see that these two are the most frequently used, with little problems. Avg did have alot of updates however
