Opening big file with low memory

Hi guys!
I got a file from a friend with an huge quantity of information.
The file is around 1.3gb, but I got a problem. I already tried to open it, but as I only have 1gb amount of ram, it's impossible.
Do you know any way to open it? Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Edit: the file is a text document and I'm trying to open it with any word editor.

try using a larger paging file, and try using EmEditor to open the file.
i never open a .txt file that large in size, but as far as i know it can handle a very large text file.
and also, how about tell you friend to manually split the contain of the .txt into several files and resend them to you.
