Which Commercial Burning Software Do You Use?
Of course, the two major players are NERO and ROXIO. There's a THIRD option for OTHER.
So, please select the one you like most and give some reasons for your choice. ALSO, please list the VERSION of the software you use.

Also I used Gear Pro when vista first came out.
What should I use that works great in Vista now?

Nero Ultimate Edition 6.6.0.8 (I prefer the older ones).
However, now that ImageBurn has reading capabilities (where it didn't initially) I'm using it more and more now... and it's free (and not blacklisted either).

Is there a free one that you can choose video files and make a DVD for DVD Players?

In the case of DVD authoring, probably Ifoedit (works best with Win2K), or your best would be the free version of Video DVD Maker. Both allow you to select all the movie files you want to add to a DVD, and then output the necessary files and file/folder structures to make that DVD playable in any player. 'Course, you will still need to convert all your media over to a compatible format (being MPG2) before you do the authoring, which is where Video DVD Maker comes in. That software allows you to capture, convert, and even burn the DVD. The only down side? It goes by whatever encoders are in the system, so if you don't have anything decent installed it might encode using something.. crappy.

So many using Nero, huh?
OK, let me ask this: When I tried using NERO some time ago, I found that I couldn't burn from shared files/folders on the LAN. Adaptec/Roxio did, and DOES, allow for burning onto media from the network. So, does NERO now support this?
Whenever I was 'stuck' with using NERO in the past, I'd first have to tranfer the files/folders over to the system on which NERO was installed and then do the burning.
NOW, one other note: I noticed no one really has explained WHY you use the particular software you use. As NERO is often included with DVD/CD burners, is it mainly because it's packaged this way?

I use Nero 7 to burn DVD's and it's the only program that I've used that uses hardware accelerated H.264 playback

Nero 7 micro :P
Nice package which rips away the ton of bloat in the normal nero 7.

I think nero is the greatest. I would use it if I could get it to work right on my computer. I used it for a long time for 1 thing... functionality. It can do anything and everything without a confusing interface. I hate easy media creator cuz I think its full of junk/extra steps!
Also, http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ CD Burner XP Pro is one of the best burning programs I have recommended. Even 80 yr old people I have given the link to could figure it out over nero and roxio.
