Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

Any mac users made the move to 10.6 yet? Have you any questions before moving or questions after moving? anything not working that you think should be working?

Comments, feedback appreciated.

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

I have the Family Pack on order. I don't anticipate any problems installing it on my MacBook, but I'm curious to see what happens when I try installing it on my Hackintosh. I have a legit copy of Leopard installed (bought the Mac Box Set) so I don't know if I can do a straight upgrade without breaking the install, or what problems I'll bump into. I will probably try upgrading next week after I finish up an edit I'm working on. I plan on backing up the system first though with Carbon Copy Cloner. By then maybe someone else will have done this and will have alerted us to any possible problems.

installed on four machines, working great - had to get a few beta updates for a few apps like istat, but some nice improvements all round.

It's not available for download legally. If you have Leopard you can buy the upgrade for $29, or you can buy the Mac Box Set for $169 which includes Snow Leopard, iWork 09 and iLife 09.

I'll probably get it within a few weeks, but won't update my studio computer until all my devices are supported (knowing Digidesign and TC, that may take a while) but I want to test it out on my Air

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

Well my planned upgrade went exactly as I thought it would: nowhere. This is a Hackintosh system so my wishful thinking of a simple and straightforward upgrade was not to be. I managed to run the upgrade installation, but now the drive crashes on boot. It's probably an incompatible kext file or something with the kernel. I'm going to have to play with it a bit more to see if I can pinpoint the problem. Thankfully I carbon copied the drive and tried the upgrade on the backup so I can still get into the system

I'll probably image my Air before upgrading it, just incase my DJ software/controllers no longer work

Looks like Traktor *should* work, and the Audio interface on my controllers should have no issues (OS X has built in drivers) but I'm not so sure about the MIDI component yet

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

Boot Camp 3... what a step in the right direction. I just got finished installing this on a clients Macbook Pro (one of the newer ones), and I have to say I like the changes, especially the touch pad and keyboard control additions.

Speaking of Windows, any word on x64 issues with BC3? I installed XP Pro x86 on the new Macbook Pro, and BC3 worked flawlessly, but I've got another client asking about installing Windows 7 x64 when it comes out onto an older Macbook Pro, and I've read conflicting stories on lack of x64 support with the older ones with BC3 with suggestions on staying with BC2.1. Have you guys any suggestions on this?

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

I'll let you know Tipstaff, I've got Win 7 x64 installed on my Mac Pro, so when mmy SL DVD arrives I'll update the drivers and see what the performance is like

btw - better trackpad support on a laptop in windows? Finally, I got rid of Vista on my Air because the trackpad was almost useless

EDIT: as far as x64 support goes, I think my Mac Pro was the first Apple computer to support Win64, so anything released after Feb 2008 *should* work, but you might want to check on that

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

Okay, got SL 10.6 installed on my Macbook Air, haven't used it too much, but all my important programs (so far) have no issues

Am getting an annoying issues with my mobileme password/keychain - getting regular popups - I think something stuffed up there, but I'll see what I can do to fix it (repairing permissions and restarting doesn't help)

should have some time over the weekend to test the new "Bootcamp" drivers for Windows 7

Re: Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 thread - questions and discussion?

Got the new bootcamp drivers running on Win 7 x64 Beta, can actually connect to the net for once - all is running fine seemingly here

EDIT: Should mention my DJ Rig works perfectly, both with my EKS Controllers, and the Bheringer running via a USB hub - no driver updates required, and no updates required for Traktor either. Traktor 3 LE seemed to have issues when importing & analyzing a large quantity of tunes (about 1500) and would crash, but Traktor Pro had no such issues - worked perfectly when gigging on Friday night
