I've really done it now...
... and ordered a Mac Pro
2x 2.8Ghz Quad Core Xeons
4x 1gb quad channel DDR2-800 Ram
nVidia 8800GT 512Mb
Wireless N
should arrive in 2 -3 weeks i'm told

the retailer i got it through (Dick Smith Powerhouse) was offering 10% of the retail price, so it was about $4500, and i took the financing option (there's no way a student can afford that much in one hit)
EDIT: should probably mention that price was in AUD

Well I have a very similar system and dual boot with Vista. Games run like a champ on it and I get the security of OS X. Best of both worlds for twice the cost.

i've been using Tiger (osx86) for a few months now, plus on the school macs for the last couple of years, so i'm comfortable with the OS, but Vista will be one of the first things i install when the mac arrives - none to soon, this pc seems to be killing itself atm

with my installs of both Vista AND OSX flaking out, i had to reinstall vista yesterday just to get something useable until the mac arrives
