Consumers aren't willing to pay what Apple may ask for the iPhone but if the price drops they'll switch their mobile service to AT&T Inc. in order to get it, according to results of a survey released Thursday.

Online market research firm Compete surveyed 379 people in the U.S., most of whom had heard of the iPhone and have shopped for an iPod, to find out how interested they are in the device to produce the uncommissioned report. The iPhone is a combined music player and cell phone that Apple plans to start selling in the U.S. in June.

Oh, please. 379 people? What kind of survey are you going to get from 379 people? How can these guys make such a definitive statement that consumers are unwilling to pay $500 for the iPhone from that many people? What a joke!

Actually, Tipstaff, despite what people would think, statistics is an important part of psychology, and my wife is a psychologist. I asked her about this, and she said, no, 379 is a statistically significant sampling, and that 300 is the minimum for a quantitative study.

On the other hand, I would wonder about the demographics of the people. The sampling criteria ... that's not listed.

what the hell are they complaining about??
we pay twice that for top of the line phones in UK. or does the whole mobile phone thing work differently in the US??
