PC check failed.
Hey everyone,
I just bought an ATI TV Wonder PRO Remote Control Edition and i have a few problems. My first problem is that the PC Check tells me that i don't have the DirectX components properly installed. My second problem is that it tells me Capture driver INF files are not installed. I know that my DirectX components are properly installed and i did install the Capture Driver files. So if anyone have any clue on how i can solve this...I'd appreciate the help.
PS: I also tried starting windows in safe mode but it wouldn't allow me to install the capture driver files.
Here are some screenshots:

The PC Check program has proven to be a thorn in the side of many... I got around it somehow but can't remember how...
Try reinstalling DX9 (latest from Microsoft) and .Net 1.1, along with any motherboard chipset update that may be available for your motherboard.

Directly from ATIs site:
"ATI Multimedia Center "PC Check" error messages In some instances, after installing ATI Multimedia Center, running the System Compatibility check ("PC Check") will result in one of the following errors: - capture driver is not listed in registry
- WDM INF files are not installed onto the system
- Capture driver INF files are not installed
- DirectShow components are not installed properly
- Direct X components are not installed properly
Additionally, the System Compatibility check may also fail to detect the DirectX version installed. To confirm the DirectX version installed, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
Please note that the "WDM INF files are not installed onto the system" and "Capture driver INF files are not installed" may occur when using a NON ALL-IN-WONDER product, and are not a cause for concern.
The order in which the ATI software is installed may also help contribute to this symptom. We recommend that the Capture drivers be installed FIRST, then followed by the Recommended ATI Display Drivers. Furthermore, ensure that the latest version of Multimedia Center has been tested.
Please note: In some scenarios, these messages will occur, but do not affect the performance or functionality of the ATI Multimedia Center. You may disregard these messages if you are not experiencing any other issues with the ATI Multimedia Center software."
The suggestion about changing the order in which you install the drivers would be the first I'd try. Also, I would certainly get in contact with ATI Tech Support if your not able to get it worked out. Apparently (given the above post from them) they are aware of this error, and might be better able to help you out directly.

I just did a system restoration and now i removed my TV Tuner Card. Do you guys think i should just install the drivers and everything first before putting my TV Tuner Card ?
I also forgot to mention that when i tried to install MMC it rebooted my computer before it was installed and when i logged back with my CD still in it said Internal Failure and then it said MMC access is denied and closed the Installer.
As for the DirectX when i tried to redownload it and install after clicking yes for Acceptin License Agreement it went to DirectX successfuly installed without installing any files.

Nope. Install the card, but when it asks about installing the drivers just cancel the install. Then install the drivers according to ATIs recommendation. That means the capture drivers first, then the rest.

At this point I would have uninstalled the drivers, and started again from scratch. Was probably a good idea that you did a system restore.

This happens because the installer looks to see if the drivers are there, and if they are, it stops installing. No need to reinstall something that's already there.. at least that's Microsofts position. Whether it looks for specific files, or specific registry value is the question. Short of manually deleting specific files I've tried a ton of things to get the installer to continue, but alas, I've never found a way to reinstall DirectX 9.0C.
BTW: What video card do you have?

Well last night i decided to give it my last shot. I first installed the card's drivers from the CD.
Next i installed the capture drivers. Then DAO / MDAC. Last i installed Multimedia Center. I also installed directly from the website's driver page instead from the CD.
Now from what i did....It FINALLY worked.
I still get problems with DirectX but it still don't bother watching TV and i also have a problem where the Capture drivers are not emulated. But that's still doesn't both me.
Thanks for your tips TIPStaff and swimtech. Oh and i have an ATI RADEON 9250 with 128 MB DDR.

Bah, ignore that useless program. If it works then it doesnt matter.
In this order things should be installed:
Cards themselves
SP2 (if you dont want it you need the next 2)
DirectX 9
.NET 1.1
Graphics drivers (includes WDM)
MMC
Remote control
That always provides trouble free installation for me, as well as using driver cleaner

Can't find it? Highlight all the buttons 'till you see what they do. Did TV on demand going off not work?
