P4C800-E Deluxe/AIW 9800 Pro/XP-SP2 and Hyperthreading
Does anyone have a similar setup and have MMC working okay for them using the latest Catalysts and MMC versions? I'd be interested in knowing your BIOS version and settings that are different from the default. If you had problems before, what fixed it etc... I don't have much hair left trying to figure this out =).

Jeronol, thx for the info. Is there any reason why you don't use MMC 8.08 and the latest WDM? What settings do you have under "Power" in your BIOS? Thx.

I use MMC 9.03 because of the TV tuner picture is out of synch with the sound... comparing it with a regular TV broadcast... there is a slight delay of the TV video. So I uinstalled the NSP WDM set from Cat 5.5 installed the WDM from Cat 5.2 and the MMC 9.03 and everything work great again. I check out the Power in Bios after I take a restart.
Ronnie
Here's my setting under Power in the Bios
Suspend Mode "Auto"
Repost Video on S3 Resume "No"
ACPI 2.0 Support "No"
ACPI APIC Support "Enabled"
BIOS AML ACPI table "Enabled"

Finally got things working... at least a workaround. Here's what I did.
1. Fresh XP Pro w/SP2 installation
2. Updated .NET Framework
3. Installed Catalyst 5.5 CCC Bundle
4. Using Device Manager, updated "ATI WDM Rage Theatre Video NSP" and pointed to c:\ATI\SUPPORT\5-5_xp-2k_wdm\WDM_SP\XP for the files instead of the NSP directory.
5. Installed MMC 9.08 files.
No more hangs, blank screens, audio loss, sync issues, waiting for ATI support to tell me to reinstall etc....

NSP is a new thing I think the only thing it added was digital audio. Other than that I dont understand why HyperThreading caused these issues.
Will dual core have the same problem? No one knows

Sorry, I initially thought that things worked okay without HyperThreading. Turns out it just took a while longer before problems started manifesting. Things are still running good with the workaround though.

Rohue Frog - thanks for the info.
Out of everything I have read about this issue, this sounded most like a fix. However, when I attempt to update the driver using this method, XP says, "could not find a better match than the software you have currently installed." after I pointed it to the WDM_SP. Any ideas??

It just means that it could not find a more recent driver for it based on version number

Just so happens that I have the same motherboard as Rogue Frog and having similar problems. I tried his work around and figured out how to get XP to accept the "SP" drivers instead of the NSP ones. At first, it looked like it was a total fix. No delays or sync issues but after about 10 minutes of running the TV in a window, the PC hangs. The only way I can get out is by resetting. I've tried removing Easylook incase those drivers are somehow conflicting and I've removed DAO as I've heard on other threads that it causes more issues than what its worth. I have the latest CCC package installed.
Of course, I have a ticket with ATI open and they have me corresponding with their 3rd echelon techies but all I'm getting is, "Have you checked your BIOS version?"
Let me count the ways....
Any ideas?? I'd appreciate anything at this point.

I still get occasional problems with the workaround but it's not as bad as before. Anyways, I gave up and just use AMCap for now until my hair grows back then I can start playing around and pulling my hair out again. ATI has no love for us AIW users.

I am interested what you mean by BLANK SCREENS?
I have a P4P800DX 2.8GHz (HT) - AIW9600. The sound/audio sync issues - yes I have that. But all of a sudden I developed a problem whereby when I try to change the screen size, all of a sudden the TV picture goes black. I have tried to find out a way to make it come back - sometimes when I change to lower sizes (CTRL-1 etc) it sometimes comes back. But then again when I double click it disappears.
I keep hearing about reinstalling Windows (XP PRO SP2). Seems all my ATI problems started once I moved to SP2. The thought of reinstalling - thats at least a couple of weeks of work (XP alone isn't the issue - its all the small apps and setups and adjustments).
I just want to know if your version of blank screens is the same as mine.
thanks

Actually, the computer would freeze and there would be no signal from the video card to the monitor therefore the blank screen. The driver update from NSP to SP helped but would still have problems here and there so I switched to AMCap to watch TV instead of MMC all together. I've since moved to an Nvidia 7800GS w/ATI TV Wonder Elite & HD TV Wonder combo. Much more pleasant experience so far.

Doesn't it still use MMC though?

Maybe they're different WDM drivers then!

Yup, the HDTV Wonder and TV Wonder Elite each have their own WDM drivers. It's the AiW WDM driver that's driving everyone nuts. That doesn't mean the other two are perfect but nothing close to the way the AiW drivers behave with MMC.

OK.. so the steps you took were "OK" but were not 100% the solution. I don't want to spend hours/weeks in doing things if the end result is not back to the way it use to be. I want to move into PVR type systems - ie HAUPPAUGE card.
Was looking at creating a PVR via Linux and MythTV (.org).
Regardless -- thanks for the AMCAP and site. Some nice apps there - (amazing the stuff out there -- just need to network a bit).
Cheers!

Hi, I have had similar issues with trying to upgrade drivers and software for my AIW 9800Pro. I have:
Asus P4P800 E
3GHZ
2GB RAM
ATI AIW 9800Pro
Initially I needed to update drivers for certain game play and the only way I could get it to be all around stable was to use the Microsoft drivers instead of updated Catalyst drivers. The orginal drivers from the CD would run fine except that I would have to not install Hydravision or the computer would freeze. No big deal there as I wasn't using that at all.
Ran that way for awhile but now with the Day-light Savings time change I needed to update the Gemstar software. To do that I needed to update the MMC software, but when I do that I run into into similar problems to the ones in this thread. The channels are very slow to change and the audio and video are out of sync, and eventually the program freezes or crashes.
I've tried changing to a program called Beyond TV which seems like it would be cooler to use as it has alot more useful features than MMC for TV viewing and recording. However it doesn't seem to recognize the Rage Theatre capture driver properly but will take the updated AVStream T200 drivers that come with WDM now. But it still has issues with audio and video syncing and eventually crashing.
I'm going to check my power settings on my MOBO and then try the mix and match driver installation that is suggested here. Hope it works.
Might take me awile to get to it, I've got 9 month old twins...... and a wife who just doesn't understand. We use the AIW to record all our CSI and Law & Orders, but she just doesn't understand whn things aren't working right, it's my fault you know.

You might as well just unapply that DST fix... they're considering undoing that change (can I get a rofl?), but you'd be best off to just set your clocks manually because things like thermostats and microwaves won't get updated with the DST fix anyway unless you buy new ones...
Anyway you might explain to your wife that technology is not something that is infallable and that the human error doesn't lie with you but with the people that created the infernal software

Stuck with old drivers
Thought I'd reply to this thread instead of starting a new one as my sys config is similar...
Anyways I've recently purchased the "Orange Box" from Steam (HL2, TF2, Portal etc.) and I can not run the games without the latest or at least a newer driver than I currently have.
My setup:
P4C 800-E DX
P4 3 Ghz (Hyperthreading)
2GB RAM
ATI AIW X800 XT (AGP)
Driver Version:
Catalyst 6.1 with (WDM SP the analog ones)
MMC 9.06.1
On my system this setup is rock solid giving me good 3D performance and full TV recording options... Has been since CAT 6.1 came out....
What I would like to know is if there is any way to install the latest display driver, (It's at 7.10 now!) without it installing the T200 driver. Obviously I have tried installing just the display driver package but it still contains hooks to the T200 and wipes out the Tuner. It removes the analog WDM setup and kills my TV functionality. Any time I go to the digital audio path I get lockups and crashes.
So I am left with giving up TV or giving up my brand new game... I'm just hoping that there is a way to remove the hooks to the T200 or make the driver think that my card is older so that it installs the analog WDMs. I don't know anything about programming drivers or compiling code but I can edit some ini files if that's what it takes... I just need to know where to look.
Hope there is a fix for this... Thanks.
