Hi - I was giving by my wife -(surprised- i think it has something to do with the new HDTV we just purchased and my wild ideas on its use LOL) a all in wonder 9000 pro card - this is my first ATI card - I read all the scoop on it but like most am still a little confused with the FOUR DRIVERS I down loaded I dont even know if I got the right ones -
Anyway I downloaded driver removal and am doiing a clean install - with XP Pro -
The OS is currently using the MS driver - will someone please walk me thru the procedure of removing drivers and installing the ATI one or point me to a step by step guide - this iis what i downloaded
control panel 7-981-040127m
mmc 8-9-00
tv-capture wdm 6-14-106227
wxp-w2k-7-981-040127mm-01
I would feel a lot more secure itaking instruction from the fourm members who have done this and know the ins and outs
thank you for your time and knoledage

I've been through this several times, and ATI's instructions are good. For the display driver link here:
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...14&submit.y=11
Be sure to read the installation tips and Release Notes on the page and install the components in the following order - Display driver, Control panel, WDM driver. You could download and install the three components as one file from the page (23.8M in size) as well and possibly save yourself some time and the possibility of version incompatabilities.
After the Video driver components, the MMC (and components) should be installed. The three files from there:
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...=14&submit.y=7
should be installed in the order given (DAO/MDAC, DVD Decoder, MMC), and (if you install the DVD player software) will require your original install disc to verify you are entitled to use the DVD player software (license issues).
You should have either 4 (for the large Video driver file and 3 MMC related files) or 6 (for the 3 Video driver components plus the 3 MMC components) files total.
All the files I've linked to for you are for the AIW 9000.
Happy installing - hope all goes well. Your starting with the MS WinXP driver is an excellent starting point.
Welcome to DH!

Thanks
OK I understand part of what you said - I have 4 files -
Should I uninstall the xp drivers using driver remover or install over them ?
Sorry for being so dense but I have read a lot of post on this and have read about some pretty bad experiences --
nothing new there - not to even touch on some of the incompatabilities some people have had with other hardware/software - it would be nice to see it work right the first time around althought I have never had that much luck with any driver updates in the past
again thank you for your time

Installation is definitely the tricky part, and you can't be dense, you"re here eh? And your wife loves you enough to get you an AIW card - just plain awesome!
I'm curious as to the size of the file you have named wxp-w2k-7-981-040127mm-01. That will tell me more about what files you have versus what you may or may not need.
Also, if you want full functionality for the TV stuff your card will do, you'll need to download (looks like) two more files from ATI - the DAO/MDAC and DVD Decoder files.
To check what driver and adapter you are actually using at present (before starting the installation), please note the following:
Click Start, right click My Computer, click Properties, click Hardware tab, click Device Manager bar, expand Display Adapters, then note the name of the Display adapter. Then right click the name of the Display adapter, click Properties, click the Driver tab, and note the Driver Provider and Driver Date. That way we'll know exactly what Display adapter and driver WinXP thinks your running.
We'll go forward from there - OK?
If you want an in depth step through of the uninstall and install procedure for someone who has a previous version of ATI's driver and components on their system, click here:
DRIVER INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR n00bs
Genius put together an excellent and highly detailed primer there - you may not have to go through all that - but you might depending on the driver and adapter WinXP says you have...
One last thing at this point, now is a great time, if you want, to install Omegadrive's driverset (you'll still need ATI's WDM file). It is designed to enhance image quality and gameplay, and I've used at least 9 versions installed one right over the other (no uninstalling!) for about two years now. It's your call...

Thank you
Ok here is where the dense part comes in - I have read about the omega drivers and seen the site - are you saying to just install the wdm file and omega or install the whole mess plus omega?
the file wxp-w2k-7-981-040127mm-01 = 8841kb
you want the display adapter name? = aiw radeon (MS) dated 7-2-2001, ver- 6.13.10.6153
this has 3 ddl files listed and one sys file in C:/windows/system32
and the last is in C:/windows/system32/driver folder
I hope this makes sense to you
And yes I have the indepth install printd out now -
thanks again for your time

PS - my wife only wants to hog the HDTV - since she gets home before me its HER programs that we watch - thnk i'll get home early tonight and see what happens

Ok, Read this entire post through first if you would - I have to compose this in a bit of a hurry...
First, you would need to uninstall the display adapter and driver via the control panel (add/remove hardware, add/remove programs) and don't reboot yet. Then run the Driver Cleaner. Genius didn't use driver cleaner - and his method is very thorough, but running the driver cleaner from here should be sufficient. Genius' registry procedures can be daunting, but if you're comfortable with hunting through the registry for the proper keys you could do that instead of using the Driver Cleaner.
From that point, the Omegadrive driverset, then the WDM (from ATI). Reboot as prompted.
OR
The three ATI video driver files you already have in order (Display driver, Control Panel, WDM). Reboot as prompted
The Omegadrive driverset substitutes for the ATI Video Driver and Control Panel.
That only gets your video part going...
Then comes the "Wonder" stuff. That would be the DAO/MDAC, DVD Decoder, and MMC in that order.
You don't appear to have the DAO/MDAC and DVD Decoder files yet and would need to get those first - before beginning any of these procedures, and store the files you decide to use in one folder on the desktop for easy access. Follow ATI's instructions on installation of the "Wonder" files after you do the Video part.
These instructions are limited now because I have to go to work my second job now.
Maybe someone else can add the fine touches to these instructions this evening, if you run into a problem or have any further questions - whatever the reason...
Installing the drivers for an AIW is (as you're finding and have read about) part science, part art, in my opinion.
I'll be back...

Ha! Yeah, might as well keep a sense of humor about it, the result is worth it too...
It would (should?) be easiest to install the software with the CD that came with the card, (just to get it going) - any particular reason why you decided to download and install everything with the latest files from the web site for the first time? Most folks just don't bother... But with my separate tuner and video card I did pretty much what you are doing (I wanted the latest and greatest, and installed the Omegadrive video driverset instead of ATI's).
I went through two cups of coffee during my install...

If omega drivers which i see just release a new ver. So you feel the pic is better - I will try them first
I dont drink coffee but I did bring home a bottle of kulhua, voka and a gallon of milk - LOL
I do plan to down load the other drivers you talked about - but I can see from rereading the instructions - they are not at all that clear and the file names Su-k
Why is it so hard to name them ver so and so part 1-2-3-
I dont know when I will be able to try these drivers - since I dont get any time off till monday -
I will let you know how it goes

Amen.
"If omega drivers which i see just release a new ver. So you feel the pic is better - I will try them first"
I like them both for the quality and that you don't have to do any uninstalling when the new version comes out...
"I dont drink coffee but I did bring home a bottle of kulhua, voka and a gallon of milk - LOL"
Mmmmmm, White Russian - it's been years...

Leftovers I guess from the 8.3 naming convention days I guess, even though their not conforming - how about this instead - DAO_MDAC for Cat4.2 or whatever.
"I dont know when I will be able to try these drivers - since I dont get any time off till monday -

Hope you don't have to work too intensely over the weekend. I'm working the WD store Saturday evening myself, but none on Sunday, then just the 8-5 until next week Thursday.
Your wife gets to hog the HDTV over the weekend too eh?
Nice to hear back from you, looking forward to hearing how it goes for you...

AT Last
Just to give you an update - Tonight I got the time to do the install
first I found another reall OLD ATI card at one of the local used computer shops - "all in wonder Radeon - w 32MB DDR memory AGP 4x/2x so I installed it in my wifes computer, did a clean install of XP Home
first problem - omega drivers did not downlaod correctly so had to redownload -
I reread all the info you gave me plus all the info on the guide -
I did not go into the register this time since it was a clean install and I am hopping that there is nothng there that will give me problems -
I removed the XP dirvers, ran driver cleaner and installed Omega dirvers then WDM ,DAO/DVD decorder did not want to install because this computer does not have a DVD drive, only a rewriteable ROM Drive- then I went to MMC
I connected an OTA antenna I have on the roof to the card and did the setup
Looked like a winner till I tried to start the TV - The error reads -
EASZYLOOK can not be started because of an out of date display driver
Get the latest ATI display driver
Then the TV started up notmally -
there is no sound - I think i need to connect the sound card to this ATI card somehow - I will check that monday
i have not tried recording yet will try that monday also
the pic is very dark all channels (by the way I only have about 6
So any ideas on this ?
Again thanks for your time

The tuners in the AIW cards require a strong signal to look their best. You can adjust the darkness problem in the settings available while the TV program is running. Click the settings button on the TV console, then look at the Video tab - you'll see adjustments there for brightness, contrast, color, and tint, just like on a regular TV. The range of adjustment is large too, so you have a lot of fiddle space... You may need an inexpensive signal booster if you can't get a good clean picture (no snow...)
As for your sound problem, you'll need to recheck the settings for where the sound is input from. First, make sure the volume controls for all Windows sound devices except Microphone and SW Synth are turned up and not muted. During the setup, you were supposed to be asked what "device" (line in, aux, etc.) you wanted the sound to come from. With the TV application running, and the volume turned to near maximum within the TV app, go to the Display tab and re-run the Initialization Wizard. When the sound selection option appears, be tuned already to the best channel you have, and click on the sound input selections while listening for TV audio through your speakers. I don't think your AIW card even has an input for audio alone, so the connecting cable from a sound card should not be an option at all...
The Easylook stuff works with the ATI Remote Wonder remote control, it shouldn't apply to the AIW Radeon. Further (for later reference), you may need to use ATI's video driver to enable Easylook for late model AIW cards (like your 9000) if you have or plan to get and use the Remote Wonder.
