Hello,
Is there a way to set up a recording that will 1) not turn on the TV appi, and 2) if I shut off the TV appi does it still record?

In case I can't do #1 (and then by inferrence #2) if I set up a recording though the TV appi OR Guide Plus can I start it minimized so it is mute?

System Specs

I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish. The TV application will come up when you record whether you like it or not, if I remember correctly. If it doesn't start, neither does your recording, so it just seems self defeating.
