Smilie Cant Get Capture to Work... Help

Installed an AIW a year ago and just now getting around to connecting vid camera to capture. Bought the svideo cable tonight. Connect to svideo/audio cables to the card and invoke Studio 8. Error msgs cannot detect Fire wire? Tried to capture using native Windows Movie Maker and nothing show on my preview screen/nothing captured. The camera is on and playing tape? What am I missing? Thanks for all who respond...

Are you sure you've got the camera plugged into the video in and not the video out? Make sure all the cables are where they're supposed to be, but it sounds like to me that you'd be better off using Firewire if your DV cam supports it

However if its not a DV cam (You said playing tape which makes me wonder if its an old style CamCorder), you may need to start installing different drivers and the like to get this to work

Hi there and welcome to DH!

Could you give more info about your camera and your AIW card and motherboard if it has FireWire connectors. H3X4D3C1M4L is right about drivers if make sure that you have WDM drivers installed.

Motherboard doesn't matter so much. An addin Firewire card can be had under $20USD

I have studio 8 and I also use Arcsoft showbiz. my ATI capture quit working so I tried the program that came with my sony cam corder and it was reconized using studio 8 and Showbiz. The voulme will not be there until after you download your video. Hope this helped.

Can you clarify what you mean by the volume won't be there until after download? Do you mean you can't manupulate the input volume level until after its been processed (which seems silly to me that they would let a bug like that slip haha), or the sound isn't actually there until the video has been processed (like a video preview window only thing)?
