TV tuner card suggestions?
Hello all,
I am entertaining the notion of setting up a PC as a TV recorder basically. I have a P4 3.06 533 FSB, on an ASUS P4S800-D with 2 X 1GB sticks of DDR 333. There is a 250GB SATA drive as well. The video card is an ASUS 9600XT/TVD AGP.
What I would like, if possible, are suggestions on what to use for a TV tuner card?
Thanks -Pete

Oh boy, words of wisdom, if ya want to play games, get an xbox - Playstation
If ya want to do TV stuff, well, chuckle, are you ready to increase blood pressure and decrease quality of life,
Question 1, If you are running W2000 ( not SP3 or4) or XP Pro or SP1 and can refrain from upgrading MS's miserable updates, try an Older ATI TV PCI wonder, they are wonderfull, Older Hauppauge's ok too. MultiMedia happiness STOPS with SP2, use your old VHS and enjoy more LIFE. ( been doing this for 10 years) 9 of it spent trying to record consistantly, you've been advised.

My thanks to you both. I have XP Pro SP2 so it really isn't worth it at all? If I were to make an attempt with this OS which exact models would be worth trying? I have never tried this before and am curious so..... My X800 XT AIW is being used as just a video card in another rig and as Kbuzzard stated it is useless as anything else.
Is there anything XP Pro SP2 didn't make useless?

Not sure if it is worth it or not. Unless you are sure it has working Vista drivers too, so you can be future proof.

I use the ATI HDTV wonder. It works great! However, the software is a bit buggy, but I use it to watch over the air HD programming & my analog cable TV.
Go check out the AVS forums to find out what everyone there is using: www.avsforum.com

I'm wondering how many AiW/TV card users would be willing to work with bulding MythTV from source and using Linux perhaps
Hauppage cards seem to be the best however I have given up on Windows almost all together.

OK !!!, again thanks to RETARP there is a small prog that will play and capture TV from AIW's with either AVS200 unified crappy driver or BETTER with WDM drivers in either XP SP1 or 2. I t is less than 10 meg install, VERY simple BUT catures and utilizes TitanTV,Zap2it, and any other. It runs from WMP encoders and uses a wopping 20megs of RAM to work. Check out " http://www.maksil.com/ " and use newest dl, screenshots here, http://www.maksil.com/tv_window.htm. Read about and try. Records a WMV file with quality adj's, easy to convert to Xvid with MPEG 4 Direct Maker and you can dl and use FREE "MPLayer" which will play damn near ANYTHING incv DVD's. MMC in 15 megs or less and WAYYYYYY less finicky. Says this will work with ANY TV card with WDM drivers and obviously AVS200 unified. GOOD BYE MMC's its been nice !!!, Not Really.).
I wish someone can make up somthing like this with Xvid encoder, maybe I can... Have fun.

H3D, I like your MythTV / Linux deal, someone on NET is working on that. Go DL the link on my post above. It is truely amazing how FAST it sets up, Frankly, I realize how much of a boat anchor MMC's are. MsDVR + MPlayer do 85% of MMC with > than 20 megs and 20 megs of RAM. I have a LIVE CD of Myrinix with MythTV and it will NOT detect AIW tuner but will detect ATI TV PCI.

Tenacious, LOL, Hey, I have taken hammers to PC chit, I paid good money "then" for this AIW and have on rare occasions enjoyed it. They are great Hardware devices thrown to the public, unfinished for the almighty dollar, further F__ged by DRM and RIAA, WE lost somewhere in this race to uselessness.

Well does me no good then, but I'm sure with a little magic I could get it done.
I was considering using OpenBSD perhaps, for everything except games... I'm beginning to love that OS

Hi all, not sure where to start. ATI ALL IN WONDER 9600!!! for XP OS, I have lost the tv capabilaty . In my computor under hardware, in the device manager, under sound, video and game controllers. I found ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio, ATI WDM Rage Theater and ATI WDM TV AUdio Crossbar. Under the properties tab for all 3 of these, it says this device cannot start. (code 10). I can't say 100% sure that it started when about a year ago I installed service pack 2. I will say it has been that long since my ATI TV worked. I have read a lot of comments and heard and tried a lot of suggestions from here and the ATI site among others. None have worked. The only thing I would like to know and it has been asked in many forums, is why ATI has not addressed this problem and if so giving a solution. Has anyone with xp found a solution to fix this problem. Please let me and all othere who are still sane. Thanks, Bobbyhelpme.
