TV Wonder 200 - Drivers? Nah.
So I'm doing a nice thing. Dad wants to watch TV on the computer, he calls me and says, "Is ATI a good brand?" Sure it is. I should have thought of my wonderful experience installing an HDTV Wonder on my own rig and told him to drop that box and run while he still could.
So:
XP SP2. DX 9.0c. S3 UniChrome graphics.
The system sees the card and pops up five generic "Multimedia Controller" objects in the Device Manager. Can't find drivers. So I point it to the WDM folder tucked away on the CD. No luck. I go online to find drivers. Hmm... TV Wonder Pro, TV Wonder VE PCI... no TV Wonder 200. So I try the PCI drivers. They install suspiciously fast, I reboot, nothing changes. MMC is now refusing to install due to some RegDB BS. I look a bit and see that the 200 is an update to the Pro, so I nuke ATI's registry entries, kill the Support folder, and try the TVW Pro route. Still no luck.
SO WHAT KINDA DRIVER DOES THIS THING NEED?
How can such lovely hardware have such horrible software? Please, DriverHeaven, deliver me from DriverHell.
[update]
Alright. After a bit of shouting and hitting things, I started digging through the CD. I manually assigned the TVW200 drivers to my unknown Media Control objects, and I now have about four copies each of the Tuner, Crossbar, and A/V Capture devices. I deleted all but one of each. CMC is no less crap-tastic than MMC, and it likes to reset the system every few seconds. The WinampTV plugin scanned for channels and will pick up the audio portion. No video. BeyondTV does the same.
