TV wonder VE, do WDM-drivers make a difference?

I just bought an ati tv wonder VE pci (mostly for the simple reason that I got it dirt cheap), and got it to work without any big difficulties on XP pro. The picture quality was crap with the ati tv version in MMC 7.6 beta, but it's a lot better in ATV2000 and K!TV. Still I must say that I'm disappointed, as I was really expecting the picture quality to be at least better than that of the almost 20 year old 14" samsung I gave away a year ago. But sadly it's worse, and by quite a marigin. It's like I was using a small aerial antenna instead of having a tv cable.

Now the question is, do the wdm-drivers affect the picture quality enough to warrant searching for a different version of them, and if they do, where can I find them or at least where should I start my search?
