From what I've been able to glean so far, this whole problem started due to the new T200 drivers. Can anyone verify this?
BTW, why are there no longer any WDM Drivers listed under Sound, Video, and Gaming devices in Device Manager?

Seems alot of guys are having issues with the newer versions of MMC, that do contain the stream driver...If your having issues maybe rolling back to a older version that uses the NSP drivers might work better for you...Like 6.2 and MMC 9.08 -that is a nice stable combination. for me anyway..

Very likely will do this tonight.
EDIT: Well, I've gone back to CAT 6.1 and MMC 9.08 and it's working again. Finally was able to close the TV and then open it again without any trouble.
EDIT2: I spoke too soon. Although I can bring up the TV screen at will, it won't do any recording at all! Nothing I've tried so far will get the recording to start.
EDIT3: Well, I hadn't actually tried this before, but, due to limited space on my C: drive, I had setup to use my video drive (I: ) as my temporary drive. It's also where I store the videos. Seems you can't use the same drive as both temporary and storage. Once I chose C: as temporary, the recording started working again...BUT AFTER I reverted to all the drivers and MMC 8.8 from the original CD. <sigh>

I noticed this on ATI's website, I'm having the same problem you are, along with about 5 other problems. I haven't tried this yet.
Quote from ATI
In some configurations, the ATI TV Player fails to launch resulting in the following error:
Unable to start TV: The TV Player failed to initialize the video.
To workaround this issue you will need to add an additional line to the Environment Variables section of the Windows System Properties.
- Open Windows Control Panel, and double-click the System icon
- Select the Advanced tab, then click Environment Variables button
- Under System variables section scroll to the variable called Path
- Highlight Path, then click Edit
- At the end of the Variable value line add the following text exactly as it appears:
;%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers
- Click OK 3 times and then restart Windows
- Run TV Player
On my PC it shows the following data string in this PATH location
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\Sy stem32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\
So it definately has something to do with ATI, maybe my adding this driver location string it will fix the problem. I'll try it now.

Ok, I had the same problem (failed to initialized) after upgradeing tot 9.14
I have changed my path but it didn't help.
But I did something else.
I used the ATI multimedia center configuration tool to select an other input source.
Instead of ATI AVstream Analog capture 1, I selected the unknown resource and it solved the initialize failure.
I'am still finding out how to disable the TVoD but the RegFix (setting LiveMode to 1) didn't work for me. So I have picture but terrible sound, most likely caused by the TVoD.
I have an ALL-IN-WONDER video card. Excelent hardware but terrible software.
Thanks any way for all the information I found here.

I have an all in wonder 9800 se, and when using catalysts 6.x in combo with 9.1x multimedia center , it would say, unable to initialize tv, but now i found some sort of resolution. It seems u have to install the Avivo drivers, supposedly only for x1000 cards, but try it and u'll see!!!
There is another problem though, the resolution used is 288i for some weird reason, but i bought a seperate tvcard already or u could use older catalysts ( with all the wdmz) and the 9.08 mmc..

lool
did u test that?
because i installed them and after that the mmc worked!!
I'm not saying that it actually uses the avivo encoder, but there seems to be a problem with mmc not starting when avivo is not installed, thats it...
and as stated i have a 9800se AIW.

yepz
6-8_xcode_35179.exe is the one i used so that is definatly the newest posted 08/18/06 on the ati drivers page.
It specificly states 'will only work with x1000 series products' but i thought lets try it out
so
6.8 catalyst
6.8 wdm
9.15 mmc
6.8 xcode
for me this whole problem started due to the new T200 drivers....

I don't believe it...
ATI's All-in-Wonder is amazing hardware, but the software can give you an amazing headache that might never end. Here' s a winning combination for me under a fresh install of Windows XP SP2.
If you have different versions of any of the software listed here, uninstall ALL OF THEM and REBOOT before continuing, or you risk having to restart the process all over again.
Someone on the forum, THANKS A MILLION TO YOU, said to install the AVIVO package. I thought "How retarted." But having dealing with the ATI MMC BS every year, I've been willing to try anything.
From top to bottom, install:
(Packages can be downloaded from ati.amd.com >> Drivers >> etc.)
1. The newest ATI Catalyst driver
2. DOA package
3. ATI MMC 9.15
4. AVIVO Package (Install it, no matter how stupid it sounds)
I SERIOUSLY Recommend installing in THAT EXACT ORDER, and REBOOTING in between each time.
I also did the ATI Environmental fix. I seriously doubt that worked, but here it is anyways:
Right-click My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced >> Environmenal... >> Under system variables, double click PATH and add this to the end EXACTLY:
;%System_Root%\system32\drivers
>> Ok three times >> reboot.
-------
I hope this works for everyone. I've scoured the internet for God only knows how long and this seems to be the winning combination.

AVIVO package made no difference in my case, infact that wouldn't even install the installer EXE file just locked my CPU at 100% use and showed nothing

I have an X800XT AIW, and I am pretty confident there is no way to get MMC 9.14 working with this card.
I have found that the apparent best combination for this card is Catalyst version 6.2 with MMC version 9.06-1.
The general state of ATI support for the AIW cards is not very good; as so many have noted here, good hardware, dodgy drivers, leading to much gnashing of teeth and user frustration.
I feel the pain of everyone who has posted here with a problem; it aint your fault folks; the AVStream T200 driver starting with Catalyst 6.3 apparently is not reliable with the earlier AGP cards.
I hope someone else finds a fix. In the meantime, do a clean install with Cat 6.2 and MMC 9.06-1 (both of which are hidden, but can be found on the AMD-ATI site) and good luck!
Best regards to all

Why hasn't this thread been updated to reflect the 9.15 MMC release?
