eax1900 xtx problem
hi
I have just installed eax1900 xtx and instead of having this values:
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7503/adszxr3.jpg
my maximum requested core clock is 624, and memory is 600 mhz.
I have used omega drivers and in information tab it displays my vpu bios core as 540 (or 590 not sure) I ran find max core facility and output was 587 for core.
though i havent used ati tools yet.
what can be wrong? Insufficient power? (tagan 430 for core2 6600, gigabyte s, single hdd, single dvd rom, 120mm+80mm fans + 2 leds)
thanks in advance

Welcome to DH.
That "issue" is normal with ATI cards.ITs a default mechanism known as clock throttling which is done to reduce power consumption when there is no 3d activity going on.
It'll come back upto full speed when ur gaming. Its low when ur in windows to reduce power draw and keep ur fan quiet.

Yes exactly.
Your X1900XTX has two clock values - 2D and 3D clocks. In windows, while you are working, chatting, listening to music or whatever - the card will use the slower clocks. As soon as you start a game, it will automaticly change to the 3D clocks - wich are the correct values for your X1900XTX.
Remember that the "hotkey poller service" is needed for this clock change to work. If the service is disabled, then your card will stick in 2D games - meaning slower performance.

thanks, It seems like you are right. I am able to play oblivion with all settings max and hdr + x4 aa @1280*1024 smoothly.
But how can i see the values in screen capture in my previous post?
I mean, ati overdrive practically doesn't work if it does not allow me to set a clock speed for 3d? (who needs 2d gpu overclocking anyway?)

well if u boost the card voltages to the 3d voltages in ati tool then u'll see the core clock and mem clock rise.I don't know what the 3d voltages are though.

Overdrive overclocks 3d-clocks. The "requested" value is your 3D-clocks, while the "current" values are 2D-clocks. You cannot change 2D clocks from the Overdrive - you are indeed overclocking 3Dclocks.

The problem is that I can not set my requested clock speed more than 624 mhz. top of the overdrive switch for requested clock reads 624...?? Am I missing something?

The values on this; http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/7503/adszxr3.jpg
picture are 100% correct. If you keep them exactly like that, then your X1900XTX is working perfect.
If you want to overclock it futher, i recommend using 'Rivatuner' - its simple and works.

hi,
thanks for your patience.
Sorry for misunderstanding, but those are not my values. just replace the value 690(max. possible requested ) in the picture with 624 and that is what I have. (of course my minimum requested is also lower than 648, it is something like 500. my current vpu was at 580 before unlocking, not at 650 which is default for xtx's.) Therefore I simply can't request more than 624mhz. I have heard that x1900 xtx are famous for their loud fan noises but I never heard anything disturbing even during the games like oblivion yet.
regards.

did you unlock the drivers overdrive feature? The image you posted shows it in the locked position. Mine shows unlocked. Once unlocked run the automated clock configuration utility to determine what they recommend as clock speeds

yes i did.
that didn't change the max value written on the top of slider. it just let me set requested clock (up to 624mhz max...).
-and once again, that capture was not taken from my computer.-

1.45v is the stock voltage for 3d mode, if you wanna see what your card clocks up to in a 3d application get this program http://www.techpowerup.com/systool/latest.php its called Systool has lots of stuff on it but anyways heres a run down of what ya do after you install it.
Hardware Monitoring/Settings/and checkmark ATISensors.dll and hit apply.
then go back to hardware monitoring you should now see ATI R580 it will also say Core Clock and Memory Clock outside of a 3d app it will be the default 2d clock, so now enter some 3d app and wait a little bit then alt tab and check what systool says since it refreshes every 5 secs you got a bit of time to look at it (can be increased to desired amount of time via the settings window on hardware monitoring) if you need any help just post
and as for a X1900XTX your clocks should be around 500/600 2d, and 650/774 in 3d
so by that your requested clocks are fubar since it says 621/720 which would be your 3d speeds, also run the automated utility and see what it gives you. You should be able to get 700~/792 (max it will let you set memory) if you use ATI Tray Tools you can do 702/828 on stock voltage with good cooling

hi there,
I've been away from my computer for past couple of days so I havent been able to test your suggestions until yesterday night.
Now;
I have run oblivion and medieval in ultra high settings and fan never works more than %25 percent. I have run oblivion in windowed mode and constanly checked core speeds via system tools, riva tuner and catalsyt and core just doesn't move up. All shows 524mhz fixed. Core voltage is 1.20. Same with full screen mode, I checked when I close the game and monitoring history shows no change at all. single constant line around 524 mhz.
I manually set fan speed in riva tuner to %95 and, well, i had understood the jokes about stock fan and hair dryer.
Anyway, I have set fan to jumbo jet mode, set my core close to 620 via riva tuner (tried this also with ati tool with same result), verified core speed on all monitoring screens, and run ati tool artifect scan, and it was pretty massy. Catalyst kicked in a couple of times and reset my vpu saying it had stopped responding. Meantime, my core voltage was still 1.20 -which I believe to be the cause of the problem-. I have run oblivion in 620 for a couple of minutes, it had crashed on windowded mode, it had ran well on full screen mode. (But fps were not improved than 524mhz mode) I never had any problem regarding the temperature during the tests, It never went up higher than 40-50 C.
Strange thing is, I have set +0.1v to gpu on bios (gigabyte s core2duo) but I still see same values on all hardware monitoring screens, 1.20 in 3d and 2d.
I have tried to use easy tunes 5.0 software which came bundled with the board, and it shows/enables me to adjust a couple of settings like cpu freq., voltage etc, but altough there are fields for GPU clock and voltage, those fields displays no value al all and increasing/decreasing it is disabled.
I was suspecting my tagan 430w psu but I have disconnected everything but axt12v, cpu fan and hdd and nothing changed.
All monitors shows that card is ati x1900 series. board reads x1900 xtx. My card is actually a second hand card. Is it possible that its bios is flashed to x1900 xt (I am not positive about that either since those values are too low for x1900 xt)
Any help would be greatly apriciated before I toast my card or be deafened by %100 stock fan while figuring out what is actually going on.

You reloaded it with it's own bios, unmodified? And that fixed it? Weird....
