Right channel lost when using Line In
Hello !
I have this rather bizarre situation.
So I plug in my guitar in the line in.Start playing, and guess what ? The right channel is muted. For some reason if I stick my ear straight on the right front and rear speakers...i hear a small hiss and no sound at all.Only the left one produces sound.
Needless to say...the tests run smoothly...when I test the speakers front and rear right are very much ok.Movies,music...perfect.Guitar on line in...boom ! Mono sound.
I went to the Ac97 panel in kx setup panel...there is this option 3dse...heh,if I click on anything other than OFF...guess what ? The front right speaker beggins to play...but the rear one is still muted. And the sound is somehow reverberated...it's not natural.
I am using version 3537.And a sound blaster Live 5.1 with 5.1 speakers.
Speaker setup is 4.1 / copy.
Please help...i hate the mono sound.

How are you connecting the guitar to the sound card?
Most guitar cables are mono (as most guitars output a mono signal), so unless you are using some kind of mono to stereo adapter, or some kind of effects box that outputs stereo (along with a stereo cable from the effects box to the sound card), you will only get a mono signal. Of course you can simulate stereo in the DSP by using something like the 'pan' plugin or 'Chorus' plugin, or by double connecting the mono AC97 output, to the stereo input of another plugin (i.e. AC97_Left -> In Left (some other plugin), AC97_Left -> In_Right (some other plugin)).

Aha! It is possible !!
Well actually I am using a Zoom G2 effects processor between my guitar and the PC and from the Zoom output I am using a regular guitar cable to enter the Line In.
The thing is...I also have program that simulates guitar effects,it is called Guitar Rig 2.
Very good program, and in it...in the settings panel I set the ASIO inputs and outputs and it plays stereo.But..well,software emulating guitar pedals is...unsatisfactory at least.
That's why I bought a hardware unit. And it does a lot better, but the sound is mono.
The Zoom G2 certainly outputs stereo, but now that you've mentioned,I am sure the cable is the bottleneck...I don't know where to find a stereo cable to plug into the line in...I will check some stores.Thank you.

Something like this is probably what you want.
BTW: How are you connecting it to the sound card?
i.e. Are you connecting it to the rear of the card? or do you have a LiveDrive?
If you are connecting it to the rear of the card, then a 3.5mm (Male to Male) Stereo Extension cable and a 3.5mm Stereo Female to 1/4" Stereo Male adapter will work.

Totally my bad.I mean...I asked kinduva stupid question, though my problem now is solved.
Here's another thing : I cannot record my guitar through Fruity Loops 6.
I watched the tutorial, got the Producer Edition...set the audio settings...but if I try to choose a recording device (IN)...none is shown. The guitar is still on line-in with stereo sound
and for example in the most basic of all recorders (windows recorder) I can record (with huge noise).Maybe some FL Studio guys around here? Thx.

I have only played around with the demo, but, I think that recording in FL Studio only works with ASIO, so make sure that you set it up correctly for using ASIO.
i.e.
Audio Output: kX ASIO
Sample Rate: 48000
I think that once you do the above, then you should have inputs available.

Exactly...I did just this...and actually this is also what the tutorial suggests (there is no word on inputs in the FL studio tutorial)...setup the ASIO output.I can set it to 44100...on the SB Live otherwise it reports an error (and 21.33 ms delay...I think it is huge though...but the delay itself is not criminal,I can still play).Still I have absolutely nothing to choose from in the IN drop down menu of the program.Something's fishy .

It needs to be set to 48000 (kX does not have any 44100 ASIO inputs)
Open the kX ASIO Control Panel -> Click Defaults
Set the sample rate in FL Studio to 48000.
Beyond the above, what DSP config are you using? Your DSP config must include either epilog, or ProFx:ASIO.
