Mobility Drivers - the DH way
Hello! We have had many people registering on Driver Heaven lately and I know this site can be a little bewildering as it is not a " normal" tech site. We aren't limited by merely reviewing hardware and games, we also produce our own modded drivers, and we have a team of coders who make some extremely useful applications.
This leads me into the purpose of this post. ATI powered laptops. Most of you know that ATI have improved mobility support, however they are still tied in with OEM restrictions and certain companies such as DELL will not accept the installation drivers from ATI's website.
This is when the Driver Heaven ATI Mobility modder comes into play. this application is a simple click and run tool which will modify the offical ATI drivers to support ANY laptop/ATI powered solution, meaning you can keep up to date with driver fixes and have the best ingame support possible. This can be a godsend for users running high end dell laptops (amongst others), as they are still (with many systems) running their own versions of the 6.6 drivers, 4 revisions behind the latest ATI set.
What is even better is, it is totally free, make sure to check it out - and remember we have our own TOOLS section support forum if you have questions.

same here but I ended up using the OMEGA driver. Easier to install for me.
Though my laptop is old now, 9700 mobility, so using the latest driver or not doesnt help improving frame rate.

Wow, this looks great and everyone really seems to like it.
I have a Dell 9200 with a 9700 mobility and am very eger to try this out. However, my laptop is still under warnenty and I would not want to void that. Any potential problems there or is it full speed ahead?

There are no real problems to note, no, however we cant for sure say 100% it will go perfect. hard to cover every eventuality.
If it reassures you, ive just used the tool on a DELL 2010XPS to upgrade to the new offical Cat 6.10 and it has worked perfectly fine.

Well, I went ahead and installed the new drivers. The instructions where very easy to follow and the program worked great.
For the most part, everything seems to be running fine. Several graphical errors have occurred though. I do not know whether to associate these with the new drivers or not. For now, I’m going to leave them in and continue testing.
First, when playing the project reality mod for BF2, the game crashed (not that unusual by itself), but several pieces of my desktop would not show up and I had to turn off the power (could not access the start menu) and reboot.
Second, twice now Civ 4 has crashed on me for seemingly no particular reason. I get the following message:
Quote:
Failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.
File:\Source\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamebryo2_0\C oreLibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9VBManager.cpp,Line:1019
|
I hit “OK” and then I get a second error message:
Quote:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: ...raxis Games\Sid Meier’s Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application’s support team for more information.
|
However, I do recall that when I used to get fairly far in Civ4, where I could see most the world, the game would start to slow down and then crash. This is a little different, as the game just crashes and I’m not quite as far along. After one of the crashes it reset all my civ4 settings to default, that was interesting.
In the end I just don’t think I have enough ram (only One gig) and that updating drivers just can’t compensate for a lack of ram...
Anyways, great site and like I said, I plan to leave in the new drives unless you guys advise otherwise.

Fujitsu-Siemens with ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700
Well,my laptop isn't Dell, orAlienware so it's not so "strong".It's still under warranty.I already have some omega drivers (3.8.273),but they are not very efficient.
What are the improvements in these Modder drivers from this site?
I tried downloadin original Catalyst 7.1,even though it said on the ATI site that Fujitsu-Siemens was supported, their verification software "said" that my laptop isn't supported!?!
What's the difference between CATALYST 7.1 and the drivers mentioned on this site???
Are they better,worse,safer,or not???

They aren't modded drivers, this is actually a tool to let you install the Offical ATI drivers from their own site. So you don't get any tweaks. This might aid some people if they have issues or don't want to use modded drivers.

These drivers were stopped. The team that did them has stopped developing them due to personal/work etc reasons.
I reccomend using the DH Mobility mod tool. Download the tool from this site, go to ati.com and download the newest drivers. When you get to the ati site driver page, click on "multiple downloads" this way you can download the driver, and cc panel seperatly. Now, click the driver exe, once it's all unpacked to the ati folder, stop the instalation, then use the DHM tool, follow the onscreen instructions, next it will say "go mobile" click yes, then install the drivers, next install the cc panel.
Before doing all this make sure you uninstall any ati software, and drivers.

Thanks!

update for newer Catalysts?
An update to mod the latest catalyst 7.3 would also be nice. =) I couldn't get it to work with 7.2 (bsod after modded driver install) and the modder wouldn't recognize/touch the 7.3 drivers at all if I remember correctly. I have a faithful Dell 9100 with a 9700 128mb card.
Thanx for a great program!

Quick question. Which chipset does the Mobility Radeon AGP (0x459) (16mg), in a Thinkpad x31 correspond to? After upgrading to Vista have been pragued with BSOD page faults in .ati3duag.dll. Enjoyed your comment. I think what you are sensing is that between ATI/IBM/Lenovo/Microsoft there are huge problems in supporting the embedded ATI chipsets under Vista.
So people like myself, who only want to get the pc working start to do very specific google searches, e.g. 'ati3duag.dll' point us to sites like this one. A desperate need for support. Ati passed me to IBM/Lenovo, who passed me to Microsoft, who sent me back to ATI (they do in fact write the drivers). The Apple commercial is looking very appealing, the one where when upgrading the IBM PC nervously says, 'i am about to have my innerds replaced'. cheers,
