Problem starting game with Omega drivers
Recently I purchased Age of Empires 3 and the expansion. I Installed it on my laptop which has an ATI Mobility M9P, AGP 4X. After installing the game I attempted to run it and got a message saying my the game might not run because my drivers were outdated. I tried running it anyway and it worked ok for a short while but then began to freeze after a few minutes of play. I tried to download catlyst but it wouldnt let me so I decided to download and install the omega drivers. My problem is now when I try to run the game its says Direct 3d could not initialize. I tried using the ati tray tools to create a shortcut but that didnt work either. I usually dont mess with drivers much so I dont know a lot about this subject any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Greetings and welcome to DriverHeaven!
What you should do is download the latest DirectX from Microsoft. There's a recent release for October.

If installing the latest DirectX didn't solve the problem, it seems you need to reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers.
But, in addition to this, before we go any further, you need to post as much detail about your computer as possible. CPU, RAM, Video Card, Motherboard, etc.

I have encountered the same problem. pentium 4 2.80 GHz 512 ram. Sony VAIO PCG-FRV37 with 80 GB HD. I clean installed Omegadrivers 3.8.291. Windoes install is not the repackaged version. But it is nice that Sony hosts all drivers on their Website. They may be evil for installing a root kit in their CD's but at least they do offer up old drivers for their pc's. So does that make them less evil, or less good?

So, did Sony's drivers correct the problem? Your post doesn't say one way or the other.
Have any of you tried running the game with the newest ATI official drivers? Remember, you don't HAVE to install the ATI CCC. If you want only the drivers with the 'old' Control Panel, just go here: www.ngohq.com and click on the Files option at the top of the page. You'll find what you need on that page.

I would also try one of the older sets of Omega drivers, specifically the 6.5s. Even though Omega added support for different cards apparently ATI has removed some needed support to have them work as they should.

Well I installed the 6.5 drivers and most of my games seem to work now, thanks for the help. Also there is a number in the top right corner of the screen when the game is playing, I'm guessing its the frame rate?

Is ATI Tray Tools running in the taskbar? If so, then it's a function of that program that is displaying the framerate. To turn it off open up ATI Tray Tools (right-click on the taskbar ATI cube icon for it), select "Tools and Options", then "Onscreen Display". The first setting under the OST tab will be "Enable Onscreen Display". Just uncheck the box, then hit ok. That should take care of it.

The same problem with Radeon M6
I have ATI Mobility Radeon M6 and installed omega drivers version 3.8.291.
I have the last version of directx.
I lost Direct3d on the dxdiag and none of my games work saying problems with directx
I understood that youy installed a previous version of omega drivers. Was that it?
You installed over the previous version or you clean the previous omega drivers?
Please help.
I don't understand prety much of this but I'm trying to solve this problem for the last 3 days after dinner.
I'm aslo afraid of uninstall omega drivers and go back to the oficial ones. I'm not sure how to do that.
Thanks
W

3 days... and you think you have problems :/
Anyway, you should be able to fix it just like the other guy did, download the Omegas 6.5 (3.8.252), uninstall current drivers (should be in add/remove programs, also after uninstalling that I highly recommend using Driver Cleaner Pro - found on this site), restart and install the older Omegas.

Thanks anyone!
I've solved that problem but unfortunatly I still can't play the last "Broken Sword" (that was the reason I installed omega drivers on the first place)... 3 more days!

After installing the drivers supplied by Sony (Radeon IGP 345m) The game did work, Direct3d not detected. Then I reinstalled The latest Omega Drivers and direct3d stopped working again. I'll give those older Omega drivers a try [3.8.252 (Catalyst 6.5). ]. Thanks, I'll post my success if it happens.
UPDATE: Simply confirming that uninstalling the latest Omega Drivers (6.9) and installing the (6.5 v3.8.252) Works just dandy. Didn't even bother reinstalling the legacy drivers, or use a driver cleaner. All is golden, and Directx works on all settings. Nice to have my Laptop up to spec again Thanks for all the posts and help.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!
First this is one old thread where you replied. And second could you give more information about your computer? What graphics card is in use and what driver version you are using?
