Best Buy can kiss my lilly white
Bought the pre-sale NWN2. Called two days prior to the release date & asked if they were going to have em in.
"Certainly. That supposed to come out on 11/1/06 ans we shoudl have them in stock!"
I go across town on my lunch break expecting to pick up my copy. Did I? Nope. Guy tells me that the truck probably won't be in until 2pm. grumble grumble frikin frakin. ok fine.
Go back that night. Did I get my game. Nope. Wasn't on the truck. Call back today. Day after release date. Certainly they will ahve it in. Do they. Nope. Guy tells me they have like 8 whole copies that are on order and they will probably either be in this Sat or maybe next Tuesday. WTF?! I tell him to kiss my ass & hang up. Call the Gamestop across the street. They have em in. But only if you pre-ordered. Son of a bitch. I call back & get the floor manager and give him a piece of my mind. He listens to me a second finds out what I'm looking for & puts me on hold. Except he hangs up instead.
I call back. On hold again. Of course. Finally get through & ask why the hell they would sell a pre-release of the game and not have it in the store on the day of release particularly when the competition across the road does have it. They blame it on warehouse crap. They would be happy to refund my pre-order if I want. Which would be great except the only way I can get a copy of it anywhere else seems to be if I pre-ordered. ARRRRGGGGG.
I'm not really having a game goob fit to play the game. I would like to but I currently have 2-3 other games I'm in the middle of so it's not like the end of the world. It's the point of the thing. If I pre but something I want it the day it comes out damn it.

I've worked in retail for the past few years (Best Buy, EB Games). It really is not their fault, mostly UPS's fault. They can't control when they get shipments in and UPS is more so later than Fed Ex or DHL. If they use their own delivering service, you have to expect shit happens sometimes and you can't get what you want, right then.

no I'm sorry i really is best buy's fault. they are a horrible company. most stores can get them in on time. In fact i know for a fact that most places get the game EARLY and can do this for all of them. For instance, I got doom3 weeks before it was released because someone "accidentally" sold them at the northgate best buy early. its poor planning and shitty service if they don't have them on release date. Now...lets say they decide that this is how business works...fine...stop charging for pre-orders. I understand the agreement is that you might not get your game on release day but its still a pile of crap.
Im with you on this tinkerhell...fuck best buy.

Gemini does have a point. The whole deal behind pre-ordering is to ensure you get it the "day" it comes out.

The EB I work at always gets has games delayed.
Sometimes we don't get the shipment for 1 to 2 days. If the truck with the shipment gets a flat are you still goin to hold Best Buy responsible for that shipment being delayed?
If so your are an absolute moron, there are conditions that prevent shipments from coming in on time. If you cannot recognize that then you are another dumbass consumer.
When I worked at UPS a shipment of PSP a crew was unloading fell off the dolly and was damaged. They imediately were on it, but from I understood it took them quite a long time to take care of everything and get the packages to their destination.

I've done that at every retail job I've worked at. Usually I forget though and check the phone 30 min later. One time I came back 30 min later and the person was still on the line. They were beyond pissed. Pretty funny though.

I dont really care about prices so much. If best buy's prices suck ass thats their business. as long as they stay making a profit then its acceptable. I just am smart enough to not shop there.
The issue at hand, however, is that you pre-ordered a game and they shit you around. And no SFOSOK I wouldnt say that a shipping error is necessarily Best Buy's fault but they need to be prepared for this sort of incident. Most game companies really actually have these things well in advance. I know that EB and Gamestop often have the games in the back weeks ahead of time and judging from my little doom3 experience, Best Buy is the same...
so basically if they're getting their shipments in on the day of, they're idiots.
Oh yeah and the reason games are almost always released on a Tuesday is so that the game can be recieved and unloaded, stocked etc etc by Tuesday. A store that doesn't have their shit shipped to them until the release date is what we call a Bad Company. Thats the sort of behavior I expect from Fred Meyers or Target. NOT best buy or any large company that claims to be gamer friendly. NOT any company that does pre-orders.
edit: and I guess I should be fair to Target. They aren't really bad...they just don't cater to gamers or make any promises to getting stuff in on release day.

Who is to say that didnt happen I can tell you some horror storys of a buddy of mine that works at walmart that made a good profit on the 360 when it came out by buying all the store got in stock on the first shipment SPOS.

BestBuy is an ass hat kinda place, I hate them, but they have driven Circuit City and Compusa out of the market in towns that they previously enjoyed success. They are the Walmart of the their particuler market and enjoy sucess in spite of the fact that the staff rarely knows the products they sell nor the correct price for anything. I have two in my city and both are well known for poor customer service. Christmas is the only thing that seems to change the character of the stores here, otherwise they suck. I cant wait to get to England to find good tech stores there. Wish Benjamin could come along, he would be my Aid de Camp whilst I fill my shopping car..LOL

Aren't you the guy who's xbox 360 bricked due to a microsoft firmware update and all you had to say was, "I'm glad ms is fixing it woot!"? I think there is only one dumbass consumer here and he's going to be missing a few games on launch.
